Argusta A. Miles

Argusta A. Miles, 51, of Selma, died Wednesday, January 19, 2005, at a local hospital.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, January 26, at Tabernacle of Praise, 850 Woodrow Ave., with the Rev. Effell Williams Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery with Lewis Brothers Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include her husband, Daniel Eugene Miles Sr.; mother, Marilyn Alexander; two sons, Daniel Eugene Miles Jr. (Tracey Sanders) and Farale Miles; four daughters, Alicyn Hatcher (Curtis King), Barbara Thomas (Wornzie Thomas Jr.), Cathy Miles and Ebony Miles; one sister, Mary Tripp; seven grandchildren; mother-in-law, Betty Mae Miles; one daughter-in-law; one brother-in-law; three nephews; two special friends, Louise King Antas and Annie Bell Simmons.

Active pallbearers are nephews and friends.

Josephine Hopkins

Josephine Hopkins, 67, of Selma, died Thursday, January 20, 2005, at her home.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, January 25, at the Chapel of Lewis Brothers Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery with Lewis Brothers Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include two sons, Sidney Hopkins of Los Angeles, Calif., and Jerry (Lillian) Hopkins of Georgia; daughters, Betty Hudson, Paula Woods and Marilyn (Willie) Radford of Selma and Barbara Hudson of Los Angeles, Calif.; five brothers, George(Lucille) Hudson, Walter and James Hudson of Selma, John (Mandy) Hudson and Peter Hudson of Los Angeles, Calif.; two sisters, Lizzie (Archie) Blevins and Alberta Carmichael of Selma; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one son-in-law; one daughter-in-law; one brother-in-law; two sisters-in-law; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Active pallbearers are sons and nephews.

Honorary pallbearers are sons and nephews.

Richard Shade Harrell

Richard Shade “BaBa” Harrell, died Sunday, January 16, 2005, at a nursing home in Tuskegee.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, January 24, at First Baptist Church, M.L. King St., the Rev. Terry Armstrong officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery with Lewis Brothers Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include his wife, Mattie Harrell; mother-in-law, Edde B. Purifoy; sons, Joseph Maul, Shedric Harrell, Richard Harrell, Reggie King (Kayran) and Richard King; daughters, Judy Cotton (Shawn), Kimberly Clark and Connie Harrell Carroll; brothers, Edward William Harrell (Betty) and Truman Harrell; sisters, Carol “Clarise” Bowser (Edward), Melba Coleman (Thomas), Sharrown Edwards and Jacqueline Walker; 23 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews

He was preceded in death by brothers, Albert and Edgar Harrell.

Mr. Harrell was born on January 29, 1934, in Selma, Dallas County, to the late Edward Harrell and Alberta Lowery Harrell. He attended Dallas County Public Schools. He was affiliated with the U.S. Army.

Deacon Eli Collier Sr.

Deacon Eli Collier Sr., 82, of Demopolis, died Jan. 17, 2005, at his home. Funeral services will be held Sunday, Jan. 23, at 1:30 p.m. at the Moscow Baptist Church, Highway 80W, Demopolis. The Rev. John Watkins will officiate. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery. Larkin and Scott Funeral Directors of Demopolis are directing.

Jekevon Jackon

Baby boy Jekevon Jackson, 18 months, of Marion, died Jan. 22, 2005.

Complete arrangements will be announced later by Lee and Rollins Funeral Home, Marion.

John Henry Williams

John Henry Williams, 52, of Marion, died Jan. 22, 2005, at his home. Complete arrangements will be announced later by Lee and Rollins Funeral Home, in Marion.
