A Selma man was allegedly beaten and kidnapped from his Crestwood Drive home early Wednesday morning and later discovered by police at the Cloverdale Apartments complex.

Shortly after 1 a.m. Wednesday, Selma Police officers were investigating an unrelated robbery at the apartment complex when they heard a woman scream, according to police reports.

“Officers looked in the direction of the scream and saw a man lying on the ground nearby,” said Lt. Susan Smith of the Selma Police Department.

Freddie Lee Holmes, 48, of Crestwood Drive, was found with his hands and feet bound and suffering from several injuries.

“He was badly beaten,” Smith said. “He had broken bones in both of his legs and an injury to his head.”

Investigators learned that suspects forced their way into Holmes’ residence at around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday.

The victim was assaulted, threatened and taken from his home.

Smith said investigators believe the incident stemmed from domestic violence and was not a random attack.

“It appears this attack evolved from a family dispute,” Smith said.

Smith said police have viable suspects who reside in another city and expect arrests to be made soon.

Smith said the suspects could face charges of first-degree kidnapping and assault.

“There could be more charges as the investigation continues,” she said.
