Two emotional games in the past week took their toll on the Selma High School Saints on Tuesday night.
The Saints got 15 points and six rebounds from Edgar Brown, but could not get past the Jeff Davis Volunteers, 71-57, in the Selma High School gym.
Selma trailed by just three, 46-43 at halftime, but the Volunteers took over in the third quarter.
After Brown’s 15-footer brought the Saints to within 46-45, Jamaar Sanders drained a three-pointer that pushed the Vols’ lead back out to four.
Sanders later followed with a bounce pass to Chip Provitt, who sank an easy shot to make it a 10-point lead for Jeff Davis, 59-49.
Childers provided Selma with some offense when he stole a Jeff Davis pass and went the distance for the lay-up.
The Volunteers, however, answered with three consecutive buckets and never looked back, cruising to the victory.
Childers finished with eight points for the Saints.
