Morgan comes up short in OT

The Morgan Academy Senators played with plenty of heart Friday night, but came up short in a 43-40 overtime loss to the Fort Dale Eagles.

The Senators battled back from deficits several times, only to drop the decision when Chuck Barrett’s heroics pulled out the win for the Eagles. Barrett scored six of his 15 points in the first quarter and was a major force inside for Fort Dale. But his offensive rebound and put-back with 22.1 seconds remaining broke a 40-40 tie and put the Eagles ahead for good.

Trailing 24-22 at halftime, Morgan Academy rallied to tie the score at 34 on Jeremy Smith’s running jumper.

David Moore gave the Eagles the lead again, 35-34, when he converted 1-of-2 free throws with 23 seconds left in regulation.

After another foul shot put Fort Dale ahead by two, Reid Buster sank a shot to tie the game at 36.

The teams traded baskets before the Eagles claimed the game-winning shot.
