Sophomore Erica Lumpkin and senior Santana Seay scored 23 and 22 points, respectively, to lead the Selma High School Lady Saints past Carver, 76-48, Tuesday night.
Lumpkin added 16 rebounds and Seay six rebounds and six assists as Selma improved to 10-3 overall and 3-1 in the area.
“It’s a new year and we’re playing like a new team,” Lady Saints coach Anthony Harris said. “Lumpkin, (Gabrielle) Goudy and (Amina) Wofford have risen their level of play.
“Our defense is clamping down,” Harris added, “but we’ve got to play more team ball. Come playoff time, we’ll wake up from the dead.”
Lumpkin went on an early scoring spree, putting up 15 first-half points.
Seay went to work in the second quarter, going coast-to-coast for a lay-up that gave the Lady Saints a 25-16 advantage with 4:30 left before halftime.
Goudy, who finished with eight points and 15 rebounds, hit a basket that put Selma up, 34-18. Carver went scoreless the final six minutes of the half.
Senior Ashley Green hit a three-pointer to open the third period. She also dished assists to Goudy as Selma opened a 46-28 advantage.
Seay came up with the play of the game when she flipped a bounce pass to Lumpkin while falling down. Lumpkin fielded the pass and hit the basket.
Shemeka Simpson had four points for Selma and Wofford added three.
Selma will host Sidney Lanier on Friday night beginning at 5 p.m.
