James Brett Brown

James Brett Brown, 49, died Monday, December 6, 2004, at his home in Old Town, Florida.

Funeral services were held Friday, December 10, at 11 a.m. at the Rick Gooding Funeral Home Chapel, with Reverend Jim Hurst officiating. Burial followed at the Old McCrabb Cemetery on Hatch Rd. (just off NE 16th ST.(351-U at the Trading Post).

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 18, at 10:30 a.m. in the Chapel at Hyde Park United Methodist Church in Tampa, Fla., with Pastor Bernie Lieving officiating.

Survivors include his parents; Maurice and Anne Brown, brothers; Maurice Brown, Jr. and Vernon Brown both of Old Town Judson Brown and Kenan Brown both of Tampa, Fl. He had several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Mr. Brown was born in Selma, and spent most of his life in Tampa, Fla., and recently moved to Old Town due to ill health. Mr. Brown was a graduate of Brandon High School and attended Lake City Community College.

Mr. Brown was formally employed by the Hillsborough County government as a drainage engineer. Mr. Brown loved all sports.

Lee Etta Phillips

Lee Etta Phillips, 83, of Browns, died Friday, December 3, 2004, at the home of her daughter in Bessemer.

Services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, December 11, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Marion Jct., with the Rev. David Alexander officiating. Burial followed in Macedonia Cemetery with Lewis Brothers Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include one daughter, Adell Dunning; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law; and one sister-in-law.

Henry Grayer Sr.

Henry Grayer Sr., 87, of Demopolis, died Monday, December 6, 2004, at his home.

Services were held at 12 noon on Saturday, December 11, at St. Paul Baptist Church in Demopolis, with the Rev. Charlie Moore officiating. Burial followed in Memorial Cemetery in Demopolis, with Larkin and Scott Funeral Home directing.

Minnie Orene Chandler

Minnie Orene Chandler, 77, of Plantersville, died Thursday, December 9, 2004, at a hospital.

Services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, December 12, at University Highway Church of God with the Rev. Willard Scott and the Rev. Billy Boatwright officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Martin Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include three sons, Horace (Anita) Dennis Chandler of Plantersville, Floyd Daniel Chandler of Maplesville and Michael (Dianne) Dale Chandler of Selma; three brothers, Horace Lowell Patterson of Plantersville, Randall Lee Verlon of Demopolis and James Curtis Patterson Sr. of Selma; sister, Una Faye Lawrence of West Blocton; and six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Chandler was born on Tuesday, Dec. 28, 1926 in Dallas County, the daughter of the late Hobson L. Patterson and Birdie Barrett. She worked as a homemaker.

Lillian Virginia Garrison

Lillian Virginia Garrison, 73. of Selma, died Saturday, December 11, 2004 in a Birmingham hospital.

Funeral services are Monday, December 13, 2004 in the chapel of Lawrence Funeral Home with Rev. Al Finch officiating and Lawrence Funeral Home directing. Family visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Sunday. Survivors include one daughter, Tammy White; two grandchildren, Emily Horn and Mary Claire White; sister, Peggy York; nephew, Tom Salter; niece, Sheron Kirby, 2 great-nieces and 1 great-nephew. Mrs. Garrison was preceded in death by her husband, James Garrison; and her mother, Mary Lee Lynn. Mrs. Garrison was a 2nd grade children’s Sunday School teacher for over 30 years at Elkdale Baptist Church. She worked as a Registered Nurse with Selma Medical Associates until she retired in 2000. Active Pallbearers will be Larry Moore, Jim Skinner, Winfred Brown, Tim Bjelke, Danny York, James Roberson. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Doctors at Selma Medical Associates.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Gideons.

Mary Ellen Williams

Mary Ellen Williams, 87, of Selma, died

Saturday, December 11, 2004 at a local hospital.

Services are at 1 p..m Tuesday, December 14 at Brown Chapel AME

Church with the Rev. James Jackson and Rev. Joseph Rembert officiating. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Memory Garden with J.H. Williams and Sons Funeral Home officiating.
