Green leads Saints to win

Senior Ashley Green scored 11 of her game-high 22 points in the third quarter to lead the Selma High Lady Saints (4-1 overall, 1-0 in area play) to an 81-25 win over the Lee Lady Generals.

The Lady Saints came out in a full-court press and never let up. Senior Santana Seay put on a clinic, scoring 16 points while grabbing eight rebounds, claiming eight steals and dishing out seven assists. She was followed by sophomore Erica Lumpkin with 15 points and eight rebounds. Shameika Simpson tossed in 10 points and nine assists.

Seay and Lumpkin scored 13 and 12 points, respectively, in the first half, and Jorielle Scott hit consecutive 15-foot jumpers as Selma took a commanding 49-14 halftime lead.

“Everyone on this team has a role to play and tonight they responded,” Selma coach Anthony Harris said. “But we’ve got to limit our turnovers and play solid defense.”

Simpson showed her passing abilities in the third period, as she got the entire team involved with the scoring and Selma went on to the easy victory.

Scott added six points and two rebounds for the Lady Saints. She was joined by Amina Wofford with four points, six steals, two rebounds and three assists. Martina West chipped in four points, followed by Gabrielle Goudy with two points and seven rebounds, and Kemeka Wilson with one point.

In boys’ junior varsity action, Selma improved to 3-0 with a 49-41 win over the Generals.

Cameron Turner and Mike Miller scored 10 points apiece to lead the Saints. Percy Harrell chipped in nine points, Michael Givhan added seven and Algertino Brown had six.
