A horrible shooting night cost the Dallas County High School Hornets a 61-50 opening-night loss at Keith Saturday night.
The Hornets shot 12-for-61 (20 percent) from the field and missed their first five shots of the evening. Dallas County also was just 21-for-40 from the free throw line and did not make a basket outside of five feet.
The Hornets were 0-for-15 from outside the three point line.
“That is the worst shooting performance I have ever seen on any level,” Dallas County Coach Bill Porter Jr. said.
The Hornets (0-1) were behind by just 6-5, after the first quarter but trailed 25-17 at half time and 35-30 after three quarters.
Rafel Miller led the Hornets with 14 points. Antonio Perry added 12 points and eight rebounds, while Daron Waters chipped in nine points and pulled down 10 rebounds. Micheal Johnson added eight points and seven rebounds for the Hornets.
Keith was led by Jeremy Harrison with 16 points.
Dallas County will be in action again Tuesday night at Selma High. The boys’ junior varsity game starts at 5 p.m.
