Lady Bulldogs open with win

Kamesha Strong led all scorers with 20 points as the Selma CHAT Academy Lady Bulldogs opened their season with a 40-31 victory over Camden Middle School.

Strong also collected four rebounds, three assists and six steals for the Lady Bulldogs. Liddy Ngirailab added 10 points and three assists, and Tynesha Ervin tossed in seven points, seven rebounds and eight steals. DeAnna Steele chipped in two points and five rebounds. Ashley Grimes and Kourtney Hatcher led the Selma CHAT Academy defense.

In other action, the Selma CHAT Academy boys’ A-team got nine points and six rebounds from Tedric Owens and eight points and six rebounds from Kevin Woods to beat Camden, 35-33.

Wendell Young pulled down nine rebounds for the Bulldogs.

The Selma CHAT Academy boys’ B-team didn’t open its season in such good fashion, dropping its season opener to Camden, 35-33 in overtime.

Keaton Spears paced the Bulldogs with 11 points. He was followed by Rodney Witherspoon with nine points and eight rebounds, and Wesley Bell with eight points.

Selma CHAT Academy will return to action Thursday at Uniontown. The Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs will be at home next Monday when they entertain Keith Middle School.
