Virginia O’Delle Perkins Williams

Virginia O’Delle Perkins Williams, of Selma, formerly of Marion, died Wednesday, November 3, 2004, in Selma.

Services are at 11:30 a.m. Friday, November 5, at Marion United Methodist Church with Dr. Asa Boozer and Dr. Larry Teasley officiating. Burial will follow in Marion Cemetery with Kirk Funeral Homes Marion Chapel directing.

Survivors include one son, Rev. Norman C. Williams of Selma; daughters, Wendy Franklin of Marietta, Ga.; one brother, Wayne Perkins of Marion; one sister, Richardine Shackleford of Millbrook; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Family visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. on Friday at the church.

Ezekiel Solomon Jr.

Ezekiel Solomon Jr., 75, of Selma, died Sunday, October 31, 2004, at a local hospital.

Memorial services are at 1 p.m. Saturday, November 6, at the Chapel of Lewis Brothers Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Blevins officiating. Burial will follow in New Live Oak Cemetery with Lewis Brothers Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include children, Jimmie (Harriet) Solomon, Willie (Sherri) Solomon all of Detroit, Mich., Larry (Linda) Solomon of Gambrills, Md., Mary (Robert) Blevins of Selma, Dennis (Fannique) Solomon of Uniontown and Tawanda (Arthur) Smith; 14 grandchildren Jermeral (Misty) Blevins, Felecia (Chauncey) Solomon-Owens, Broderick Solomon, Latonya Solomon, Kevin Parker, Willie (Taryn) Solomon Jr., Tammy Solomon, Kenyatta Solomon, Luke White, Justin Solomon, Joshua Solomon, Queontae Boggs, Amya Hudson, Zavien Smith and Kalinda Solomon; a host of great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; four daughters-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Active pallbearers are Jemeral Blevins, Broderick Coleman, Luke White, Chauncey Owens, Arthur Smith and Justin Davis.

Mr. Solomon was born July 23, 1929, in Dallas County to Ezekiel Solomon Jr. and Margaret Gamble Solomon. He was a community entrepreneur for many years, he operated the Silver Fleet Inn, know as Solomon Place in Central Mills.

Lewis Jackson Davis

Lewis Jackson Davis, 60, of Selma, died Friday, October 29, 2004, at a veteran hospital in Montgomery.

Services are at 1 p.m. Saturday, November 6, at the Chapel of Miller Funeral Home with the Rev. B. A. Scott Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery with Miller Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include two sons, Christopher Brown, Lamar Jerard Davis and Boston Snowden; one sister, Sue Bell Davis; grandson, Christopher Michael Brown; niece, Barbara Davis, cousins, Louise McPherson, Charles McPherson, Willie Mae Brown, Estella Clark, Joanne Hatcher and Steven Mercer.

Burnett Coats

Burnett Coats, 77, of Newbern, died Thursday, November 4, 2004, at his home.

Funeral arrangements will be announced later by Lee & Rollins Funeral Home.

James Lee

James Lee, 76, of Selma, died Sunday, October 31, 2004, at a local hospital.

Services are at 12 noon Saturday, November 6, at Sandridge Baptist Church, River Rd., with Rev. Milton Brown officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Miller Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include his wife, Eddie Mae Lee; two brothers, Will Henry (Annie) Lee and David (Mearline) Lee; five sisters, Catherine Crooks, Julia Taylor, Bessie (Timothy) Abrams, Luvenia Tinker and Minnie Bell; 22 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; one aunt, Lee Ella Lee; and one devoted cousin.

Willie David Sewell

Willie David “Ricky” Sewell, of Newbern, died Wednesday, November 3, 2004, at his home.

David Solomon Bates

David Solomon Bates, 49, of Cleveland, Ohio, died Tuesday, November 2, 2004, at a hospital in Ohio.

Services are at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 6, at the Chapel of Miller Funeral Home, Selma,

with the Rev. Steven Washington officiating. Burial will follow in Hope Lutheran Cemetery in Sardis, with Miller Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include mother, Will Etta Bates; four sons, Wendell Crawford, Rickey Walker, Wydrecus Bates and Jarvis Bates; one brother, Harry (Carolyn) Bates Jr.; six sisters, Dorothy Mitchell, Velma (Louis) Robinson, Harrie Pettaway, Sophia Crawford, Elieze (Willie) Coleman and Wendy Cottingham; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Active pallbearers are nephews and friends.

Isadore Ishman

Isadore Ishman, 59, of Forkland, died Tuesday, October 26, 2004, at a Tuscaloosa hospital.

Services are at 1 p.m. Saturday, November 6, at Lloyd Chapel Baptist Church in Forkland, with the Rev. Clayborn May officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Boligee, with Larkin and Scott Funeral Home directing.

Family visitation will be from 2-6 p.m. at the funeral home.

The body will lie in state at the church on Saturday, beginning at 12 noon.

Hamilton

Roosevelt Hamilton, 64, of Southfield, Mich., formerly of Eutaw, died recently in Michigan.

Services are at 1 p.m. Saturday, November 6, at St. Matthew Watson Baptist Church, Boligee, with the Rev. James McDonald officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Larkin and Scott Funeral Home directing.

The body will lie in state at the church on Saturday, beginning at 12 noon.

Lola Bell Lee

Lola Bell Lee, 89, of Valley Grande, died Tuesday, November 2, 2004, at a local nursing home.

Graveside services are at 11 a.m. Friday, November 5, at Pineview Memorial Gardens with Rev. Al Finch officiating and Selma Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include 2 daughters; Sybil L. (James) Murphy of Selma, AL and Pat L. White of Atlanta, GA; daughter-in-law, Jackie Lee of Mariposa, CA; six grandchildren; Mary Frances Bailey and Shirley (Charles) Arvey of Atlanta, G; Richard Lee, Tonya Lee, David Lee, Jr. and Kelly Lee of Mariposa, CA; three great-grandsons.

Mrs. Lee was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Alva “Nunnie” Turnipseed, a brother, Alroy Turnipseed, two sons, David N. Lee and James W. Lee, Jr.; and a grandson, James E. Murphy, Jr.
