Matthew McConnell
Matthew McConnell, 67, of Selma, died Thursday, October 14, 2004, at a local hospital.
Services are at 1 p.m. Saturday, October 23, at the Chapel of Lewis Brothers Funeral Home with Bro. Willie Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Sandridge Baptist Church Cemetery with Lewis Brothers Funeral Home directing.
Survivors include his wife, Ollie Mae McConnell of Birmingham; six sons, Stefforn (Annette) of Lithonia, Ga., Lepolia of Washington, D.C., Marcus McConnell and Dee Johnson (Helen) of Birmingham, Mack Jr. of Sacramento, Calif., and Matthew Richardson of Selma; two daughters, Mary Gordon and Beatrice McConnell of Selma; two brothers, Eddie (Lula) McConnell of Selma and James Holman of Birmingham; two sisters, Juanita Callens of Atlanta, Ga., and Alice (Eugene) Thomas of Selma; two grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Active pallbearers are sons.
William Gregory Cole
William “Greg” Gregory Cole, 46, of Maplesville, died Tuesday, October 19, 2004, at his home.
Services are at 11 a.m. Friday, October 22, at Maplesville Baptist Church with the Rev. Jason Smith, the Rev. Ty Parten, the Rev. Ron Gatlin and the Rev. Walter Johnsey officiating. Burial will follow in Macedonia Baptist Cemetery in Maplesville, with Martin Funeral Home directing.
Survivors include his wife, Nena Crane Cole of Mapleville; daughter, Heather Rene’ Cole of Maplesville; mother Virginia Mewborn Cole of Maplesville; father, Ernest Alton Cole Jr. of Maplesville; Sister, Gina Cole (Glen) Riley of Maplesville; brother-law, Lyndahl (Shelli) Crane of Jemison; mother-in-law, Emmarene Crane of Jemison; three nephews, David Cole Riley of Maplesville (Greg’s name sake)- William Carson Riley of Maplesville and Bradley Lynn Crane of Jemison; niece, Beverly Kay Crane (Jeremy) Hubbard of Jemison; two great-nieces Ashley Hubbard and Amberly Hubbard both of Jemison.
Active pallbearers are Robby Arnold, Ricky Hayes, Rusty Martin, Burton Huff, Derrick Morrison, Kevin Mewborn, Steven Newborn and Mike Jones.
Honorary pallbearers are Dickie Hale, Danny Ferguson, Leon Ferguson, Teddy Chadwick, Roland Sewell, Randy Gilley, Denver Cleckley, Chris Lenoir, Tim Wendell, Steven Hicks, Brandon Howard, Lee Howard, Chris Rooks, Dennis Smith and Mal Taylor.
Family visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday, at Martin Funeral Home in Clanton.

Mr. Cole was born on August 26, 1958 in Alabama to Virginia Mewborn Cole and Ernest Alton Cole Jr. He worked as a truck driver.
Mickey O’Neal Sanders
Mickey O’Neal Sanders, 33, of Sardis, died Monday, October 18, 2004, at a local hospital.
Services are at 1 p.m. Saturday , October 23, at Unity Baptist Church with Pastor Albert Whiting officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Miller Funeral Home directing.
Survivors include his father, Sam Sanders; one son, Shaquille O’neal Sanders; two sisters, Patricia (Mack) Caldwell, Mary Ann Sanders (McNeal); one nephew; four nieces.
Active pallbearers are Darion Campbell, Darrick Davis, Stacey Davis, Earnie Campbell, Alfred Campbell and Eddie Murray.
Mr. Sanders was a devoted worker to Spiller Furniture in Selma until his health declined. He was a certified electrician, graduating from Wallace Community College in Selma. He always had a loving smile and he was a friend to everyone.
