The Trojans (4-2) came out very confident, playing for their third consecutive win.

Meadowview was without running back Blake Smith, who is out for the season with a torn ACL.

The MCS defense showed plenty of spirit and patience as Sparta Academy went three-and-out on its first drive of the game.

The Trojans’ offense had great field position after a 20-yard punt by Sparta.

Landon Mehan capped the Trojans’ first possession with a 6-yard touchdown run at the 3:10 mark of the first quarter. Tyler Wendell added the extra point to put MCS ahead 7-0.

In the second quarter, it was all about penalties and defense. The Trojans’ offense threatened to score but penalties kept moving them back and forced them into a punting situation.

The Sparta offense also had something going, but the Trojans’ Black Hat defense stepped up its game.

The defense forced Sparta to turn the ball over on downs.

Despite the penalties, the Trojans were able to move the ball and quarterback Chris Sewell hit Austin Dennis on a 42-yard pass play with 18.2 seconds to go before halftime.

Sewell wasn’t through, as he connected with Mehan on a 3-yard touchdown catch with 11.9 seconds to go. The extra point put MCS ahead 14-0 at the half.

Meadowview coach Rick Jackson called running back Dustin Lee’s number for much of the third quarter. Lee contributed a major play during the Trojans’ third-quarter drive when he ran 13 yards to the Sparta 47.

Two plays later, Sewell found Dennis on a 30-yard scoring reception with 2:39 remaining in the third. Wendell’s PAT put the Trojans up 21-0.

Lee found the end zone with 6:11 to go in the game when he scored from two yards out. Wendell added the PAT.

“I thought they came out with a lot of intensity,” Jackson said of his Trojans.

Lee led the Trojans’ rushing game with 122 yards on 21 carries and a touchdown. Wendell added 23 yards rushing.

Sewell completed 4-of-7 passes for 95 yards and two scores. He also rushed for 32 yards.

Dennis caught three passes for 92 yards and a touchdown. Mehan had 24 all-purpose yards with two touchdowns, including one receiving and one rushing.

Meadowview Christian travels to play undefeated Escambia Academy in an area game Friday night.
