Brag West

Brag “Bumper Man” West, 51, Orrville, died Wednesday, September 15, 2004, in Chino, Calif.

Services are at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, September 25, at the Chapel of J.H. Williams and Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Earl Butler officiating. Burial will follow in Liberty Cemetery, Orrville with J.H. Williams and Sons Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include his mother, Martha Blackmon of Orrville; two sisters, Catherine and Corine West of Selma; five uncles; seven aunts; five nephews; seven nieces; and other relative.

Active pallbearers are uncles and nephews.

Lend Hatcher

Lend Hatcher, 80, of Plantersville, died Wednesday, September 15, 2004, at his home.

Services are at 1 p.m. Saturday, September 25, at New Salem Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Harris Cemetery with Miller Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include his wife, Sarah E. Hatcher.

Aldora Jones McGuire

Aldora Jones McGuire, 84, of Dallas County, died Thursday, September 16, 2004, at a local hospital.

Services are at 1 p.m. Saturday, September 25, at the Chapel of Miller Funeral Home with Elder Townsend officiating. Burial will follow in Little Zion AME Church with Miller Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include sons, Oscar (Phyllis) McGuire, Earnest Sr. (Maxine) McGuire, Roy McGuire of Detroit, Mich.; two adopted sons, Essex (Crandell) Hill of Selma and Robert McGuire of Detroit, Mich.; one daughter, Lillie McGuire of Sardis; 22 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; four daughters-in-law; three sisters-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Jacqueline Jones

Jacqueline Jones, 40, of Orrville, died Friday, September 17, 2004, at her home.

Services are at 12 noon Saturday, September 25, at John the Baptist Church with the Rev. Curtis Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Fulton Cemetery with Lewis Brothers Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include her father, Earnest Jones; four brothers, Bruce Jones, Terry Jones, Dwight Jones of Orrville and Donald Jones of Atlanta, Ga.; five sisters, Joyce Moreland, Brenda Jones, Annette Johnson, Bernice Jones and Treaslyn Gloss of Orrville; three brothers-in-law; three sisters-in-law; 19 nephews; 15 nieces; and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Mae Bess Jones.

Active pallbearers are nephews.

Honorary pallbearers are brothers.

Norris Dragg

Norris Dragg, 23, of Orrville, died Friday, September 17, 2004, in Selma.

Services are at 2 p.m. Saturday, September 25, at John the Baptist Church with the Rev. Curtis Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Fulton Cemetery with Miller Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include his parents, Robert and Minnie Dragg.

Vernal B. Moore

Vernal B. Moore, 101, of Glenwood, Ill., formerly of Selma, died Saturday, September 18, 2004, at a hospital in Chicago Heights, Ill.

Services are at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 25, at the Chapel of J.H. Williams and Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Thomas Craig officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery with J.H. Williams and Sons Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include sons, Samuel (Lois) and Carol (Barbara); eight grandchildren; a number of great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Vernal Celestine Benjamin Moore, was born on July 31, 1903 in Selma. She was the second of five children born to Vernon and Carrie Irby Benjamin, all preceded her in death.

Mrs. Moore was baptized at age 9, at Green Street Baptist Church and remained faithful and a active member working in several organizations.

She married the late Samuel Louis Moore on Feb. 10, 1926. Three children was born to this union, with one preceded them in death, Maude Louise.

She was a devoted wife and mother who enjoyed gardening, sewing and cooking. Throughout her 90 years in Selma, she was a wonderful friend and neighbor and well known for her good works in the community.

She spent the last 10 years of her life in Glenwood, Ill., being cared for by her sons and grandchildren, but she always longed to return to Selma, the town she loved.

Rebecca Blake

Rebecca Blake, 69, of Forkland, died Tuesday, September 21, 2004, at a Tuscaloosa hospital.

Services are at 1 p.m. Saturday, September 25, at Ebenezer Baptist Church, Forkland, with the Rev. William Branch and the Rev. Willie C. Carter officiating. Burial will follow in the churchyard cemetery with Larkin and Scott Funeral Home of Demopolis directing.

Barbara Jean Harris

Barbara Jean Harris, 62, of Burkville, died Sunday, September 19, 2004.

Services are at 12 noon Saturday, September 25, at Mt. Olive Baptist Church with Pastor Raven and the Rev. Aaron McCall officiating. Burial will follow in the churchyard cemetery with Bell Funeral Home directing.

Fannie M. James

Fannie M. James, 47, of Selma, died Thursday, September 23, 2004, at a local nursing home.

Otha Bell

Otha Bell, 80, of Marion Jct., died Thursday, September 23, 2004, at a local nursing home.
