Hannah O. Heard

The funeral of Hannah O. Heard, of Marion, was held Saturday at the Marion Baptist Academy and officiated by Rev. Clifford Coleman.

Burial followed in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.

Mary Starkey

The funeral of Mary Starkey, age 80, of Marion will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Simpson Chapel United Methodist Church in Marion. Rev. Farrient Cureton will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Odell Mosley

The funeral of Mrs. Odell Mosley, of Brent, will be announced later.

Frances Mathis Williams

Frances Mathis Williams, 94, of Furman passed away Friday, Sept. 17, at Park Place Nursing Rehabilitation Center in Selma.

Graveside services will be held today at 4 p.m. in Palmer Cemetery in Furman with Rev. Willie Crawford officiating and Lawrence Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include several nieces and nephews, Paul Carpenter of Thailand, Harold (Anna) Speir of Selma, Chuck (Lena Mel) Speir of Daphne, Phillip (Kay) Speir of Daphne, Carolyn (Ray) Anders of Madison and Betty Ruth Speir of Point Clear.

Mrs. Williams was preceded in death by husband Willie Gay Williams, parents Marvin Miles Mathis and Annie Suddeth Mathis Street, sisters Mildred (Paul) Shanks, Eleanor (Thomas) Wright and Emily (Raymond) Boyd, and niece Barbara Ann Shanks Carpenter.

Mrs. Williams was born May 9, 1910, in Rutherford, Al. She was a member of Bethsaida Baptist Church in Furman. She worked at the Alabama Sheriffs’ Boys Ranch and Alabama Baptist Children’s and Orphans’ Home.

Active Pallbearers will be Harold Speir, Bill Speir, Ray Anders, Roy Bush, Don Donald and Paul Carpenter. Honorary pallbearer will be Porter Williamson.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the Bethsaida Baptist Church in Furman.

Louise Willis Hammond

Louise Willis Hammond, 90, of Faunsdale, passed away Saturday, Sept. 18, at Bryan W. Whitfield Memorial Hospital in Demopolis. Graveside services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. Saint Michael’s Cemetery in Faunsdale, with Rev. Randal Mims presiding.Visitation will be held Sunday from 3-5 p.m. at Kidd-Robbins Chapel.

Mrs. Hammond was preceded in death by husband Charles Wayne Hammond.

Survivors include daughter Carolyn H. Weldon and her husband Alan, of Tuscaloosa; son Donald W. Hammond and his wife Carolyn, of Faunsdale; sister Carrie W. Johnson of Birmingham; and brother Jimmie Willis and his wife Kathleen, of LaGrange, Ga.; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Hammond was a native of Florence, Al., and a resident of Faunsdale for the past 56 years. She was a member of Thomaston Baptist Church.

Pallbearers will be Allen Hammond, Terry Hammond, Mark Mayo, Mark Etheridge, Tommy Willis and Mile Willis.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to your favorite charity.

Betty Joyce Smith

Betty Joyce Smith Hill, 67, of Marion, Al., passed away Friday, Sept. 17, at her home.

Services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at the Open Door Faith Baptist Church with Rev. Gervis Smith directing in the church and Rev. Kirk Smith officiating in the cemetery, and Kirk Funeral Homes Marion Chapel directing.

Burial will be held at Nebo Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Sunday from 6-8 p.m. at Kirk Funeral Homes Marion Chapel.

Survivors include husband Thomas C. Hill of Marion, sons Keith (Kathy) Hill of Meridian, Ms., Craig Hill of Marion, Roger (Dana) Hill of Gadsden, William (Traci) Hill of Helena, Adam Hill of Montgomery, daughter Cindy H. (Bill) Hopper of Marietta, Ga., brothers Curby Lee (Ann) Smith of Augusta, Ga., Wilford (Hazel) Smith of Alpharetta, Ga., Charlie (Catherine) Smith of Laurel, Md., Cecil (Sharon) Smith of Sun City, Ca., Billy (Vicki) Smith of Grovetown, Ga., sisters Marjorie (Don) Canham of Medina, N.Y., Eloise Glass of Savannah, Ga., Jackie (Bob) Winter of Harlem, Ga., Mildred (Joe) Davenport-Cohen of Alany, Ga., grand children Bryan, Ben, Erika, Zack, Courtney, Ariel and Jacob.

Active pallbearers will be Ernest Barton, Wayne Stone, Roy Averette, John Tucker, Mark Crocker, Mickey Coley, Bert Crocker and Brian Duke.

Honorary pallbearers include members of the Open Door Faith Baptist Church, Dr. Clyde Cox, staff and doctors of Montgomery Cancer Center in Selma, Cahaba Hospice, Frank Mitchell, Lance Harless, Randall Clements and Scott Wallace.

Olen Wayne Brown

Olen Wayne Brown, of County Road 248 in New Brockton, passed away Thursday, Sept. 16, in the Medical Center Enterprise after suffering an apparent heart attack. He was 73.

Memorial service will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Patterson-Sorrells Funeral Home Chapel, with Brother Larry Feenstra officiating.

Mr. Brown was born in Cherokee County to the late Clarence and Ada Mae Chestnut Brown. He was a minister of Jehova’s Witnesses and a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was preceded in death b y his brother, Donald Brown.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Shirley Brown of New Brockton; daughters Janet Harper (Larry) of New Brockton and Kim Koppel (David) of Big Pine Key, Fl.; sons Richard Brown (Debra) of Selma, Eric Brown (Beverly) of New Brockton; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
