Edna Erlene Howell Gilliam

Edna Erlene Howell Gilliam, 76, of Selma, died Monday, August 30, 2004, at a local nursing home.

Graveside services are at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 1, at New Live Oak Cemetery with the Rev. Joe Britton officiating and Lawrence Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include son, William “Bill” (Sheila) Gilliam of Selma; brothers, Frank Howell of Atlanta, Ga., and Harmon Howell of Enterprise; sisters, Francis Stone of Selma and Eleanor Howell of Robertsdale; grandchildren, David Gilliam, Lisa Gilliam and Jake Miller all of Selma and Justin Martin of Pittsburgh.

Mrs. Gilliam was preceded in death by her husband, William P. Gilliam and her daughters, Diana Gilliam and Kathy Gilliam.

Anne Marie Bryant

Anne Marie Bryant, 47, of Birmingham, formerly of Selma, died Sunday, August 29, 2004, at a Birmingham hospital.

Services are at 1 p.m. Thursday, September 2, at the Chapel of J.H. Williams and Sons Funeral Home with Bro. James Hudson officiating. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery with J.H. Williams and Sons Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include her father, Benjamin Bryant, one aunt, Mamie (James) Mitchell of Compton, Calif.; two great-aunts, Claudette Miller of Selma and Lillie Thomas of Grove Hill; one uncle, Alfred Clethen Sr. of Acworth, Ga.; cousins, Reginald Jones of Jersey City, NJ, Al Clethen Jr. of San Francisco, Calif., Erica Clethen of Hollywood, Calif., Lori Jean Clethen of San Francisco, Calif., Nareesa Cleveland of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Veronica Thomas of Mobile; other relatives and friends and special and devoted friend Marcia (Cleveland) Edwards.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Louise James Bryant.

Active pallbearers are Reginald Jones, Bro. Floyd Blevins, Bro. Timothy King, Cleveland Edwards, Roy Edwards and Clemanzo Edwards.

Repast will follow after the burial at the Ritz located at the Travelers Inn on Hwy. 80 West.

Ms. Bryant attended St. Elizabeth Catholic School, Alabama Lutheran Academy, Wallace Community College and Knoxville College. She was employed with the State of Alabama as an administrative assistant II. She was affiliated with Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses Center Point congregation.

Mary Lee Wright

Mary Lee Wright, 80, of Selma, died Tuesday, August 31, 2004, in Selma.

Funeral arrangements will be announced later by Walker Mortuary.

Benjamin Franklin Skelton

Benjamin Franklin Skelton, 93, of Selma, died Sunday, August 29, 2004, at his home.

Services are at 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 1, at the Chapel of Lawrence Funeral Home with the Rev. James Hodgens officiating.

Burial will follow in New Live Oak Cemetery with Lawrence Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include his wife, Ola Mae Skelton of Selma; step-son, Charles Kohler and wife Tammy of Selma; step-daughter, Carol Wilbanks and husband, Joe of Cairo, Mo.; and sister, Margaret Robertson of Butler; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Active pallbearers are Charles Grant, Julian Smith, James Barrett and Charles Kohler. Family visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
