David Sawyer Watts

David Sawyer Watts, formerly of Selma, died Thursday, August 12, 2004, in El Paso, Texas.

Services were held at 12 noon, Tuesday, August 17, in El Paso, Texas,.

Survivors include his daughter, Rosetta Watts and son, William George Watts both of Ferndale, Mich.; brother, Herman (Rose Mary) Watts of Selma; sister, Hattie M. McNeal of Chandler, Ariz.; granddaughter, Courtney Lee of Ferndale, Mich.; aunt, Vera Jones of Detroit, Mich.; special and devoted cousins, Dan Webb of El Paso, Texas and Carl R. Watts of Henderson, Nev.; two nieces; three nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Mr. Watts was a retired teacher from two school districts in El Paso, Texas and the Detroit School System in Detroit, Mich.

He taught mathematics and computer science.

He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Alabama State University and his Master’s degree in mathematics from the University of Detroit.

He was a member of Omega Psi Phi fraternity, Bethlehem Temple Church and was a Sunday school superintendent.

Mr. Watts was born on Aug. 12, 1942.

Shawn Michael Breland

Shawn Michael Breland, 14, of Marion, died Friday, Aug. 20, 2004, on Perry County Road 23.

Services will be held on Monday, Aug. 23, at 2 p.m., at New Canaan Holiness Church, with the Rev. Ray Grantham and the Rev. Brian Consley officiating, and Kirk Funeral Homes Greensboro Chapel directing.

Burial will be in Mt. Ivah Cemetery.

Survivors include his parents, Cindy and Jimmy Breland of Marion; two sisters, April Breland and Rebecca Breland of Marion; maternal grandparents, Sandra and Junior Beck of Elrod; paternal grandparents, Patricia and James Breland of Marion; maternal great-grandmother, Flora Beck of Elrod; paternal great-grandmother, Maggie Averette of Greensboro; and a number of cousins, aunts and uncles.

He was preceded in death by maternal great-grandfather, Oliver Beck;

maternal great-grandparents,

Mary Emma and James Frank Allen; paternal great-grandfather, Earl Ingram; and paternal great-grandparents, Stella Mae and Woodfin Breland.

Active pallbearers are James Beck, Heath Beck, Maurice Breland, Ronald Breland, Evan Holliday and David Wheat.

Honorary pallbearers are the Greensboro West High School ninth grade class, Dusty Breland and Greg Breland.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 22, at Kirk Funeral Homes Greensboro Chapel. The body will lie in state at the church for one hour before the service.
