Lee Tarver

Lee Tarver, 61, of Selma, died Wednesday, July 21, 2004, at a Birmingham hospital.

Services are at 12 noon on Monday, July 26, at Isabella Baptist Church of

Tyler, with the Rev. Calvin Cochran officiating. Burial will follow in the churchyard cemetery with Miller Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include his wife Mary B. Tarver; parents, General and Pearl Tarver; one son, Christopher (Tiffany) Boykin; four daughters, Pamela (Dexter) Blackmon, Fonda Lanier of Cincinnati, Ohio, Elizabeth (Allen) Barnett and Aretha (Russell) Alexander; brothers, Levi (Laura) Tarver, General Tarver Fletcher (Florance) Tarver; two sisters, Dora (Robert) Davis and Mable Tarver; 10 grandchildren; three sons-in-law; one daughter-in-law; four brothers-in-law; one sister-in-law; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Active pallbearers are Dexter Blackmon, Allen Barnett, Russell Alexander, Lee Tarver and Herman Tarver.

Georgia M. Harris

Georgia M. Harris, 75, of Selma, died Tuesday, July 20, 2004, at a local nursing home.

Services are 1 p.m. Monday, July 26, at Ebenezer Baptist Church with Dr. Frederick D. Reese officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery with Lewis Brothers Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include five brothers, Oscar (Mildred) Barker, Joseph (Betty) Barker, James (Annie Mae) Walker, Jerome (Mary) Barker all of Selma, Ephrom (Brenda) Barker Jr. of Compton, Calif.; sister, Katie (Will) McCullough; and aunt, Catherine Whitt; and a host nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Cleveland Harris, parents, Ephrom Barker Sr. and Ethel Barker and sister, Gulean Rutledge.

Active pallbearers are deacons.

Willie Charles Campbell

Willie Charles Campbell, 45, of Selma, died Friday, July 16, 2004, in Selma.

Services were at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 24, at Siloam Baptist Church in Orrville, with the Rev. Albert Campbell officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery with Miller Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include two brothers, Albert Campbell and A.C. (Florence) Campbell; four sisters, Dora Campbell, Mamie Campbell, Mary Dester Flennory (Roosevelt) and Roxie (Major) Irby of Selma; four brothers-in-law; two sisters-in-law; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dora and Willie Campbell and a brother, C.W. Campbell.

Robert Jackson Kennedy Sr.

Robert Jackson Kennedy Sr., 79, of Selma, died Thursday, July 22, 2004, at a local hospital.

Services were at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 24, at the Chapel of Lawrence Funeral Home with the Rev. George Sedberry and the Rev Glenn Taylor officiating. Burial followed in New Live Oak Cemetery with Lawrence Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include his wife, Jo Myrle Kennedy; daughters, Margaret Lucinda “Cindy” Kennedy and Theresa Myrle Kennedy (Michael) Williamson; son, Robert J. Kennedy Jr.; grandsons, Christopher Waldrop, Jordon (Christy) Williamson, Jacob (Jessica) Williamson, Parker Kennedy and Christian Williamson.

Active pallbearers were grandsons.

Honorary pallbearers were Dr. D. C. Overstreet, Dr. Igbal Singh, Coffee Group (Pancake House) and Friendship Sunday School Class.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Church St. United Methodist Church or Children’s Home of Selma.

Gertrude Robinson

Gertrude Robinson, 64, of Selma, died Saturday, July 24, 2004, at a Montgomery Nursing Facility.

J.H. Williams and Sons Funeral Home will announce funeral arrangements.

Richard Lee Leslie, Sr.

Richard Lee Leslie, Sr., 73, of Selma, died Saturday, July 24, 2004, at his residence. Graveside Services will be held Monday, July 26, 2004, at 2 p.m. at New Live Oak Cemetery. The Rev. Tommy Fancher will officiate and Selma Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Leslie is survived by his step-mother, Winifred Leslie of Pelham, AL; son, Lee Leslie, Jr. of Louisville, KY; daughters, Carolyn Gilmore of Milton, FL, Clarisa Leslie Baldivino of Ewa Beach, HI, Sandra Leslie Harris of Walker, Louisiana; brothers, Kenneth Leslie of Cookeville, TN, Roy Leslie of Mosele, VA, Robert Leslie of Anitoch, TN, Alan Leslie of Cosby, TN; sister, Linda Leslie Joseph of Hoover, AL; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Active pallbearers will be Bennie Hollingshead, Ron Jones, Alvin Gorenflo, Lloyd C. Henderson, Shane Macomb, Louis Troah.

John Howell Jones

John Howell Jones, 67, of Marion, died Friday, July 23, 2004, at his home.

Services are 4 p.m. Sunday, July 25, 2004, at Kirk Funeral Homes Marion Chapel with the Rev. George Washburn officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery with Kirk Funeral Homes Marion Chapel directing.

Mr. Jones was preceded in death by his sister Ellie D. Osburn and brothers Robert W. Jones, Arthur Lee Jjones, and Harvey Jones.

Survivors include his wife Earline Tiller Jones of Marion; sons, Robert Washburn (Debbie) of Adrian, GA, Earl Washburn (Wanda) of Marion, AL, Edward Washburn (Sandra) of Marion, AL; daughter, Patricia Faulkenberry (Bobby) of Selma; sisters Annie B. (Haig) Huey of Sprott, AL, Allie V. (Ralph) White of Selma, AL, Gladys (Ralph) Tucker of Selma, AL; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Active pallbearers will be Gene McCauley, Buck Washburn, Lee Washburn, Trey Washburn, Ross Faulkenberry, Larry Huey, Dickie Huey, and Dennis White.

Mildred Nichols Hubbard

Mildred Nichols Hubbard, 93, of Selma, died Friday, July 23, 2004, at a nursing home.

Services will be Monday, July 26, 2004, at 2 p.m. at Plantesville Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike Golsen and Rev. Ed. Cumbie officiating. Burial will follow in Plantersville Christian Cemetery with Lawrence Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include sons, Cherry B. Nichols, Huey C. (Mickey) Nichols, Chester N. (Sue) Nichols; daughters, LaJuana Mehan, Bettye Smitherman, Bobbie (James) Edwards; brothers, Douglas H. Huey, R. Franklin Hughey; sisters, Lucille McCrary, Juliette (Lewis) Pitts; 25 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, and 17 great-great-granchildren.

Active pallbearers will be her grandsons. The family will receive friends at Lawrence Funeral Home from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday, July 25, 2004.
