Bettie Dillard
Bettie Dillard, 79, of Selma, died on Saturday, June 26, 2004.
Services will be held on Saturday, July 3, 2004 at 1 p.m. at Mt. Ararat with Rev. Ruffin officiating and Miller Funeral Home directing, Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery.
Survivors include husband, Lawrence Dillard.
Maggie Hacther
Maggie Hatcher of Ohio, formerly of Selma died on Wednesday, June 30, 2004 in Ohio.
Arrangements are incomplete at this time.
Clarence Scott
Clarence Scott, 54, of Demopolis, AL died on Saturday, June 26, 2004 at a hospital.
Services will be held on Saturday, July 3, 2004 at 1:30 p.m. at Christian Chapel Baptist Church in Demopolis, AL with Rev. Sid Rowser officiating and Larkin & Scott Funeral Home directing. Burial will follow in Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Demopolis, AL.
The remains will repose at church on Saturday, July 3, 2004 at 12:30 p.m.
Rosa L. McClain-Wright
Rosa L. McClain-Wright, 81, of Coatopa, AL, died on Sunday, June 27, 2004 at a hospital.
Services will be held on Saturday, July 3, 2004 at 12 noon at Bethel-Pine Baptist Church in Coatopa, AL with Rev. Floyd Bell officiating and Larkin & Scott Funeral Home directing. Burial will follow in Bethel Cemetery. The remains will repose at the church on Saturday, July 3, 2004 at 11 a.m. Public viewing will be held on Friday, July 2, 2004 from 1-7 p.m. at the church. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, July 2, 2004 at the funeral home chapel.
William Harrell Schroeder
William Harrell Schroeder, 67, of Selma, died on Wednesday, June 30, 2004 at a local hospital.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, July 2, 2004 at 11 a.m. in Thomaston Cemetery, Thomaston, AL with Rev. Glen Taylor officiating and Lawrence Funeral Home directing.
Visitation was held on Thursday, July 1, 2004 from 7-8 p.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home.
Survivors include wife, Jennie Schroeder of Selma; sons, John Harrell Schroeder who is currently serving in Iraq, Phillip Wren Schroeder and his wife C.J. of Brooksville, FL; step-sons, William Anthony Howard and his wife Sharon of Tennessee, Phillip Ewen Howard and his wife Trish of Ackworth, GA, John Edward Myers and his wife Lisa of Freemont, CA, James Scott Myers and his wife Claire of Birmingham, AL; six grandsons; one granddaughter; brother, Charles Joseph Schroeder and his wife Gail of Birmingham, AL; sisters, Sara Cole and her husband Frank of Jefferson, AL, Mary Jean Smith and her husband Kenneth of Prattville, AL; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Woodfin Summerlin Schroeder and William Frances Schroeder.
David Allen “Jack” Dempsey
David Allen “Jack” Dempsey, 66, of Selma, died on Wednesday, June 30, 2004.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, July 2, 2004 at 2 p.m. in Pineview Memory Gardens with Rev. Joe Britton officiating and Lawrence Funeral Home directing.
Survivors include sons, Mike Dempsey, Doyle Dempsey both of Selma, Tracey (Tonya) Dempsey of Clanton, AL; daughter, Debbie Sawyer of Northport, AL; sister, Mary Ann Hinds of Montgomery; aunt, Coonie (Curtis) Goodwin of Selma; sister-in-law, “Prissy” Dempsey of Carrollton, AL; three grandsons, Robbie Sawyer, Casey Sawyer and Dyson Dempsey; previous wife in marriage, Zannie Dempsey of Clanton.
Mr. Dempsey is preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Claude E. Dempsey and his brother, Pete Dempsey.
John James Rhodes
John James Rhodes, 82, of Greensboro, Al died on Sunday, June 30, 2004 at a Care & Rehabilitation Center in Greensboro, AL.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, July 2, 2004 at 11:30 a.m. at Oakwood Cemetery in Greensboro with Kirk Funeral Home in Greensboro directing.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Elam Rhodes of Greensboro; daughters, Cheryl R. West of Hoover, Joyce R. Adams (Dick) of Winter Gardens, FL, Myrial Morrison of Sawyerville; sons, John J. (Jack) Rhodes of Newbern, Robert E. (Bob) Rhodes (Arlene) of Havana; brother, Rev. Mabry H. Rhodes (Mary Lou) of Hayden, AL; sister, Miriam (Tommie) Long of Selma; many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, Amy West (Barney) of Minneapolis, MN, April Suprenant (Michael) of New York, NY, Will Adams of Tallahassee, FL and Ben Rhodes, (Crystal) of Tuscaloosa.
Pallbearers will be Ronny Rhodes, Floye Meigs, Douglas Lesley, George Emory Elam, Lamar Hall and John Stokes.
Mr. Rhodes was born in Birmingham, AL on May 31st. He attended Ensley High School and worked in the steel mills before enlisting in the United States Marine Corps where he serves in the Pacific during World War II. In the fall of 1948, he moved his family and dairy operation from Trussville to Greensboro where he later worked for the Ford Tractor Company; then formed Rhodes Construction Company and finished his working life as a utilities contractor. After her retired, he cared for his beloved wife, Helen, and learned to make bread when she couldn’t any longer. He had a twinkle in his eye, many stories to tell and many friends. He will be missed and remembered for his strength, integrity, hard work and humor. He was a longtime member of the Greensboro Baptist Church and celebrated his 58th wedding anniversary on June 2.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Greensboro Baptist Church Building Fune.
