Kirk Bernard Edwards

Kirk Bernard “Big Head” Edwards, of Selma, died Friday, July 9, 2004.

Services are at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, July 17, at Mt. Ararat Baptist Church with the Rev. L.L. Ruffin officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery with Miller Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include, a loving mother, Dorothy A. Edwards, a loving father, Samuel Johnson Sr., both of Selma; a loving daughter, Shemekia Ann Minnihall of Troy; three devoted brothers, Sammy Edwards Jr., Jeffery Tyrone Edwards and Marcus Phillips all of Selma; and a host of loving aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces and other relatives and friends.

Ethel Sullivan

Ethel Sullivan, 77, formerly of Marion, died Thursday, July 8, 2004, in Chicago, Ill.

Services are at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, July 17, at Mt. Nebo Methodist Church in Marion, with the Rev. Jerry James officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Lee & Rollins Funeral Home directing.

William Lockett Sr.

William Lockett Sr., 68, of Brent, died Tuesday, July 13, 2004 at a Centreville hospital.

Services are at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, July 17, at Little Rock Baptist Church in Heiberger, with the Rev. Leo King officiating. Burial will follow in Duff Cemetery in Brent with Lee & Rollins Funeral Home directing.

Theodore Gragg

Theodore Gragg, 57, of Orrville, died Monday, July 12, 2004, at his home.

Services are at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 17, at John The Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Fulton Cemetery with Miller Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include his son, Adrien (Linda) Hunter of Orrville; one step-son, Fredrick Hunter of Orrville; three daughters, Teresa Gragg, Renae Gragg both of Detroit, Mich.. and Dorothy (Calvin) Starks of Selma; step-daughters, Shirly and Angela Hunter; six brothers, Julius Baines, Eddie Gragg, Henery Gragg, Wyatt Johnson, Clyde Johnson and Willie Johnson all of Orrville; seven sisters, Lela Sanders, Selener Gragg, Willie Mae Gragg, Vivian Irby, Eddie Mae Lake, Rozita Johnson and Rachel Johnson all of Orrville; 20 grandchildren; one son-in-law; one daughter-in-law; two sisters-in-law; 15 nephews; and 22 nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Lula Mae Gragg.

Active pallbearers are family and friends.

Maggie DeBardelaben

Maggie DeBardelaben, 91, of Autauga, died Sunday, July 11, 2004.

Services are at 12 noon, Saturday, July 17, at the Chapel of Miller Funeral Home with the Rev. Jeffery Bolden of Pensacola, Fla., officiating. Burial will follow in Mallard Chapel Church Cemetery in Autaugaville, with Miller Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include one son, Early (Helen) DeBardelaben; one daughter, Evelyn (Frank) Burns; sisters, Prevlla Tyus and Bettye Lamar; three grandchildren; nine grand-stepchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; one son-in-law, Frank L. Burns; one daughter-in-law, Helen DeBardelaben; two brothers-in-law, Daniel Jackson and Zack Tyus; sister-in-law, Jessie Della Howrd of New Jersey; 20 nephews; and 20 nieces.

Mrs. DeBardelaben was preceded in death by her husband Early DeBardelaben, parents, Isabella and Lemon Lee, one brother, Willie Howard and three sisters, Earlene Jackson, Mary Ann Broadnax and Mattie Pettway.

Active pallbearers are family.

Hester Ethel Bell

Hester Ethel Bell, 82, died Thursday, July 8, 2004, at her home.

Services are at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 18, at Mt. Olive M. B. Church with the Rev. Demond Jones officiating. Burial will follow in New Shady Grove M.P. Church Cemetery with Miller Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include three sons, William Charles (Annie) Bell, Melvin (Versie) Bell and Sammie Bell; two daughters, Jessie (Richard) Wilson and Eliza Peterson; one brother, John O. Byrd; 17 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one son-in-law; one daughter-in-law; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Active pallbearers are grandsons and nephews.

Joseph Leighton Houston

Joseph Leighton Houston, 85, of Stanton, died Thursday, July 15, 2004, at her home.

Graveside services are at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 17, at Ebenezer Baptist Cemetery in Stanton with the Rev. Danny Rasberry officiating and Martin Funeral Home. directing.

Survivors include his wife, Estelle Houston of Stanton; brothers, Hermon Houston of Selma and Eulin Houston of Plantersville; sister, Hazel Atchison of Selma.

Family visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Friday at Martin Funeral Home.

Emma Lee

Emma Lee, of Marion, died Wednesday, July 14, 2004, at a Perry County nursing home.

Funeral arrangements will be announced later by Miller Funeral Home.
