Elizabeth Lawson Stack

Elizabeth Lawson Stack, 92, mostly recently of Quitman and formerly of Valdosta, died on Thursday, July 8, 2004 at a Georgia hospital. A native of Society Hill, AL and most of Selma.

Services was held on Saturday, July 10, 2004 on Carson McLane Funeral Home Chapel at 2:30 p.m. Graveside services was held on Sunday, July 11, 2004 at New Live Oak Cemetery in Selma with Lawrence Funeral Home directing. The family and friends met following the service.

Survivors include one daughter, Jennie S. Eidson and son-on-law, Charles Eidson of Valdosta, GA; grandson, Bert Eidson of San Francisco, CA; granddaughter and grandson, Dr. Jennifer and Larry McCain of Birmingham.

Mrs. Stack was married to her husband of 55 years, Lewis B. Stack, who preceded her in death.

Mrs. Stack was an adventuresome young lady who left her country home to attend Auburn Polytechnic Institute (now Auburn University) in the early 1930’s. She graduated from Auburn and accepted a job teaching school and coaching basketball in South Alabama. From where she moved to Selma, AL, where she was employed by the Farm Securities Agency. She remained faithful to the War Eagles throughout her life.

She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Selma where she served as secretary treasurer of her beloved Sunday School class.

Rosa E. Soles, 93, of Selma, died on Friday, July 9, 2004.

Services will be held on Wednesday, July 14, 2004 at 11 a.m. in Fairlawn Memorial Gardens with Walker Mortuary directing.

Survivors include son, Willie Lee Harris (Martha); daughter, Trudy R. Soles; sister, Fannie Hopkins (Clarence); nine grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren; one son-in-law; one daughter-in-law; one brother-in-law; two sister-in-laws; host of nieces, nephews; other relatives, Mary Cross and Cecelia Crum.

Active pallbearers will be grandsons and friends.

Honorary pallbearers will be friends.

Sarah Lou Ratliff Baldis

Sarah Lou Ratliff Baldis, 73, of Helena, Alabama, died on Sunday, July 11, 2004.

Graveside services will be held in Forest Crest Cemetery on Wednesday, July 14, 2004 at 2 p.m. Family will receive friends and family at the service.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walker Wray, her parents, Floyd and Zelpha Ratliff of Selma, AL; two brothers; a son, Stephen Dale Baldis and granddaughter, Kimberly Day of Selma.

Survivors her are a son, Michael Wray Baldis (Suzanne) of Helena, two daughters, Susan Penfield (John) of Hendersonville, TN; and Stephanie Anne Ratliff of Selma, AL; a brother, Lee Ratliff (Betty) of Eustis, FL; a sister, Jean Irvin (Guy) of Rome, NY; ten grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Family request instead of flowers a donation to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society be made.

Employed by J & J Windows-Bessemer, Jordan Scrap and Saunders Leasing. She was a friend, mother, and grandmother of extraordinary means. A member of Crestway Baptist Church-Eastwood Mall.

Ronald Lee Andrews, Sr.

Ronald Lee Andrews, 46, of Selma, died on Monday, July 12, 2004 at a local hospital.

Services will be held on Wednesday, July 14, 2004 at 11 a.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tim Stewart and Rev. Larry Stover officiating and Lawrence Funeral Home directing. Burial will follow in New Live Oak Cemetery.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, July 13, 2004 from 6-8 p.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home.

Survivors include wife, Phyllis H. Andrews of Selma; son, Ronald Lee Andrews, Jr. of Selma; daughter, Olivia Grace Andrews of Selma; brother, Randy (Rose) Andrews of Selma; sister, Cynthia Andrews of Selma; parents, Evelyn and Clarence “Andy” Andrews of Selma.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy Posey, Jimmy Ingram; Osie Cunnungham, Allen Kendrick, Scott Mitchell and David Smith.

Honorary pallbearers will be Alabama Power Selma Line Crew.
