* The Brantley School will meet June 21 & June 28 at 6:00 p.m. for finalization at New Cedar Grove Baptist Church, 2040 Eugene Avenue, Selma.

* Fellow Selma High Classmates of 1975. On Saturday, June 19 at 11 a.m. there will be a meeting held in the cafeteria of Selma High School to discuss plans for our 30th class reunion. For further information contact Mrs. Delorise Eldridge Wallace (334)875-5869 after 6 p.m.

24 AARP Alabama will host a free conference on the changing role of grand parenting, 8:00 a.m. 12 noon, Thursday, June 24 at the Ellis V Restaurant, 708 Highway 80 East, Demopolis.

The program will include speakers on adult/child conflict resolution; early childhood development; childhood obesity and medication, along with other topics.

A free lunch is included, but participants must pre reregister by calling toll-free 1-877-926-8300.

25 Wallace Community College of Selma to become License Practical Nurse classes begins on August 16. Sign up before June 25 to take the net test (Fee: $12.00). Test will begin on July 9. For more information contact Mrs. Brown 876-9335 or Mrs. Roland 876-9339.

26 Calling all artists- The Walker County Arts Alliance is sponsoring an Art in the Park Festival on Saturday, June 26, at Memorial Park in Jasper from 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Any artists interested in displaying or selling their work may contact Jennifer Smith at (205) 384-9617 or e-mail blhill@mindspring.com.

27 Second Baptist Church, 2809 Hardie Avenue, Selma, Rev. Darryl D. Moore, Pastor, will be having an Annual Women’s and Men Day Celebration on Sunday, June 27th. Women’s Program will start at 10:00 a.m. Ms. Charlotte Griffeth will be the guest speaker. Men’s Program will start at 3:00 p.m., the guest speaker will be Rev. Erenst Williams, Pastor of First Baptist Church Town Creek, Alabama

* Selma Emblem Club #376 meets the 4th Monday each month at 7 p.m. at the Elks Club on Highway 80 West except July and December, next meeting will be June 28.

* The Saint Marks Number Four Masonic Lodge will be celebrating Saint John’s Day, Sunday, June 27 at 3 p.m. from the Mount Ararat Baptist Church, 120 Division Street, Selma. The public is cordially invited.

28 The Dallas County School Board will have their weekly board meeting at 6 p.m. in the Dallas County Commissioner’s Chambers of the Dallas County Courthouse Annex.

“Tuesday at the Movies” at the Walton Theater, 1000 Selma Ave. will be held each Tuesday for Senior citizens, doors open at 1:30 p.m. with the Movie starting at 2 p.m. Donation is $1. This week June 29, feature is: Mrs. ‘Arris Goes to Paris.

30 “Wednesday at the Movies” at the Walton Theater, 1000 Selma Ave. will be held each Wednesday for Children and family, doors open at 1:30 p.m. with the Movie starting at 2 p.m. Donation is $1. This week June 30, feature is: Tree Grows in Brooklyn.

* The Twelve High Club of Selma will sponsor a barbecue drive on June 30 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. All proceeds from the event will go towards their scholarship funds and community projects. Each year Twelve High Club awards scholarships to deserving student who plan on pursuing a college degree.

All tickets fare $20 for the purchase of a 5-7 pound Boston Butt. The barbecue drive will take place at Lannies Barbecue #2 at 205 Medical Center Parkway.

Dallas County Water and Sewer Authority Board of Directors will holds their regular monthly meeting at 4:30 p.m. on the 2nd Monday of each month at the Selmont Water Works Office, 2504 Old Montgomery Hwy. Next meeting will be July 12.

* R.B. Hudson High School, now known as Selma Middle CHAT Academy, is hosting a grand class reunion July 1 through July 3 at the Elks Lodge at 4304 Water Avenue.

The reunion is held every two years and welcomes graduates from the classes of 1949 to 1971.

Activities during the three-day event include the golf tournament on July 2 at Ocmulgee Gold Course to raise funds for the John “Skin” Lewis and Calvin Jones Scholarship. The tournament begins at 8 a.m. and will be followed by an afternoon picnic and a social gathering later on that evening.

During the first day of the reunion, there will be a Chat N’ Chew party, followed by a walk to the location of the former high school. The reunion ends with a dance on the evening of July 3 and a Sunday gathering for church service.

Chair members of the reunion include: John Green, chairman, Bobbie Jones, vice chairman, Jean Cunningham, secretary/treasurer, Joyce O’Neal, financial secretary, Levi Varner, chaplain, and Albert Southall as director of the golf tournament.
