Tom L. Blevins, 100, of Marion Junction, died June 1 at a local hospital.

Madelyn Hardin Tate
Madelyn Hardin Tate, 82, of Selma, died Tuesday, June 1 at a local hospital.
Services will be held on Friday, June 4, at 10:00 a.m., at First Baptist Church of Selma with Dr. John Fain and Rev. Lee Tate officiating and Lawrence Funeral Home directing. Burial will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the Clay Memorial Cemetery in Cuba, AL.
Visitation will be Friday, June 4 from 9-10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Selma in the Kathleen Mallory room of the educational building.
Ms. Tate was preceded in death by her husband, William Woods Tate, Sr.; parents, Mary Ellen Dorough Hardin and William Brantley Hardin of Sumter County; brother, Eugene Ray Hardin; sister, Kathleen Hardin Null of Hattiesburg, Mississippi.
She is survived by sons, William Woods Tate Jr., of Selma and Nashville, Lawrence Ray Tate of Birmingham; daughter, Diane Tate Blank of Alexandria, VA; grandchildren, Jonas Blank, III of New York City, William Tate, III of Birmingham, Natalie Drake of Cullman and Jennifer Harrell of Birmingham; great granddaughter, Ashleigh; son-in-law, Col. Lee Blank; daughter-in-law, Claudean Tate; numerous nieces and nephews.
Active pallbearers will be Charles Bachman of Atlanta, William Henderson of Camden, John Bell of Gulf Breeze, FL, Bryan Crawford of Livingston, Alex Davis of Thomasville and Sessions Dickson of Montgomery.
Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of the First Baptist Church, Ronnie Coffee, Harold Speir and Gillis Thomas of Dallas, TX.
Betty Jean Knox Hicks
Berry Jean Knox Hicks, died June 2, in Alberta, AL.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, June 4 at 10 a.m., at New Live Oak Cemetery in Selma with Rev. Sam Lowery and Jim Waters officiating.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 3 from 6-8 p.m. at the Gastonburg United Methodist Church in Gastonburg, AL.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Cathcart Hicks, parents, Thomas Lewis and Sarah McDougal Knox. She is survived by her children, Samuel Cathcart Hicks, Jr.
(Lucia), of Mobile, Benjamin Lewis Hicks of Alberta, Rebecca Malone Hicks Youngblood of Selma, Lucy Cathcart Hicks of Birmingham, May Emma Hicks of Shelbyville, TN, Hertbert Wilkinson Hicks of Birmingham; grandchildren, Rebecca Ann Hicks, Ella Hixon Smith, Sarah Cathcart Youngblood and Rebecca Kyser Youngblood, brother, Charles Hancel Knox (Carol) of Luverne; seven nephews and two nieces.
Active pallbearers will be George W. Fendley, Dan Wilkinson, Gordon Wilkinson, Ollie Mingo, Ralph Martin, Jim Watson, S.J. (Billy) Hardy, Jim Weir and Laird Love.
Honorary pallbearers will be Karen Weir, Annie Wilkinson, Olivia Martin, Majorie Fendley, LeRoy (Zeke) Coleman, James Williams, Laura Lee Jones and all former teachers and colleagues of Mrs. Hicks.
Mrs. Hicks was born in 1929, in Dothan, AL. She moved to Luverne, AL as a child where she attended Luverne High School. She graduated from Alabama Women’s College (now The University of Montavello) with a degree in Social Work. She retired in 2002 after teaching school for 42 years in Wilcox County school systems. She previously worked as a social worker for 3 years. She was an avid reader and served as a board member of the Wilcox County Library for several years.
The family would like to thank the staffs at The Fisher Women’s Clinic at UAB and Wiregrass Hospice along with the many friends of the family for their care and kindness shown during our mother’s extended illness. The family request that in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the following: ABC Elementary School, 3000 County Road 29, Alberta, AL 36720; The Wilcox County Library, 100 Broad Street, Camden, AL 36726; The American Cancer Society; Wiregrass Hospice, 1211 West Main Street, Dothan, AL 36301; or the Gastonburg United Methodist Church c/o S.J. Robert “Leonard” Roberts of Selma, died Wednesday, June 2.

Martha Ann Davis
Martha Ann Davis, 87 of Hayneville, died on Friday, May 28.
Services will be held on Saturday, June 5 at 11:00 a.m. at Unity Missionary Baptist Church with Dr. Rev. George Davis officiating and Bell Funeral Home directing. Burial will be in the Hayneville Cemetery.
Survivors include eight children, Alice M. Smith, Cora Washington, Lillie (Douglas) Benson Jr. all of Hayneville, Lula (Willie) Seaborn of Montgomery, Hubert Davis, Robert Davis, Rev. George (Magnolia) Davis all of Hayneville and Richard Davis of Montgomery; 46 grandchildren, a host of great, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
