Southside coach Chris Raymond will get one more chance to coach up two of his senior stars.

Raymond, along with Miles-signee Gerarde Shanks and Alabama State walk-on Darryl Watts, has been invited to the Alabama North-South All-Star game to be held in July 16 at the Cramton Bowl in Montgomery.

The trio helped lead Southside to their best season in years as they advanced to the second round of the state playoffs.

Though the guys haven’t played football since November, Raymond said they can’t worry about injuries in the summer game.

Shanks, standing in a plain red T-shirt, looks ready to go play right now.

Watts, who many feel was overlooked by some colleges, looks at this game as a chance to show some coaches what they missed.

Watts, a fantastic athlete that played quarterback, receiver and corner back, had hoped for a scholarship to play college ball.

After one didn’t come, he and Southside principal Gary Crum went to Alabama State and spoke with the coaching staff.

The coaches will report on July 11 and players will report on July 12.

Raymond said it’s a good opportunity to work with other coaches, learn from them as well as offer some help to others as well.
