Lady Hornets fall

DEMOPOLIS&045;The Dallas County Lady Hornets let one slip by them on Friday afternoon as they lost to area rival and defending state champions Demopolis, 3-1.

It was anybody’s game up to the final batter.

But Miller was pleased with the way the Hornets made contact.

The first three innings were scoreless to the pitching of

Mallory Miller and the Lady Hornets’ defense and Kelly Keasler and the Lady Tigers behind

her.

Demopolis scored two runs in the fourth.

The rally came after two walks and included three walks and two hits.

The Lady Hornets got their only run in the fifth on a bases loaded walk to Troy State bound Cassie Newman.

They left three runners on base in the inning. Demopolis added another run in their half of the fifth without a hit as Dallas County committed three straight errors.

The Lady Hornets were able to put runners on base in the sixth and seventh inning but left them stranded.

Mallory Miller (19 -9) took the loss. She gave up three runs, all unearned, five hits and struck out five. Miller and Monica Russell lead the hitting attack with two hits each. Chelsea Chamberlain, Newman, and Jessica Melton contributed with a hit each.

The Lady Hornets (19- 9, 4-1 area) host Greensboro

Monday.
