DEMOPOLIS &045; The Central Christian Academy Warriors were upended in grand fashion by Western Alabama Prep Titans. The games were called after 5th inning due to the 10 run ruling.
The Warriors lost to the Titans 12 – 2. &uot;We had mental break downs,&uot; said Warrior coach John Niblett, &uot;we didn’t make defensive plays and didn’t take advantage of the few offensive opportunities we had.&uot;
CCA found themselves down 3-0 after the first inning when WAP scored three runs on two singles, two walks, and an error. It would have been 4 runs but catcher T. Woods threw out a runner trying to score from third on a wild pitch. Pitcher Bud Smith covering the plate made the putout. The Warriors could only manage two hits through the first three innings. CCA allowed WAP to score 5 runsin the third inning that included 5 hits, one of them a triple, and two walks. The Warriors did get two runs across the plate in the Fourth when Ryan Browning walked, Bud Schultz reached first on an error by the right fielder sending Browning to third. Jeffrey Eberhart grounded out to drive in a run, then Justin Terger singled in another. Smith shut the Titans down 1-2-3 in the 4th. In the Warrior Fifth, with two outs they loaded the basses on three straight walks, but left them stranded when Eberhart struck out. The Titans were able to puch four runs across the plate in their half of the fifth to make it a 10 run advantage to end the game. Smith whose record now stands at 1 – 2, gave up 10 earned runs, nine hits, seven walks, and struck out one in four innings pitched. The Warriors record for the season is 2 – 2, 1 – 1 in area play. They face Eutauga on Saturday.
