Willie Talton

Willie Talton, 69, of Selma, died Tuesday, March 16, 2004, at a healthcare facility.

Services are at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 24, at Shiloh Baptist Church, with the Rev. Arthur Jackson officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery with Miller Funeral

Survivors include his wife, Jeanette Talton; three sons, Willie (Patricia) Talton, Derrick Talton and Marquis (Latonyia) Talton; two daughters, Barbara (Charles) Giles and Diane (Marvin) Talton; one sister, Betty Jean Payne; a special uncle, Willie Buford; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two bothers-in-law; three sisters-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and friends.

A special thanks to Southland Nursing Home and Bricliff Healthcare facility for a wonderful job.

James Pope

James &8220;Danny&8221; Pope, 52, of St Augustine, Fla., died Saturday, March 20, 2004, at a hospital in St Augustine, Fla.

Memorial services are at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 24,

at Trinity Episcopal Church in Demopolis, with the Rev. Father Aaron Raulerson, officiating with Craig Funeral Home of St Augustine, Fla., directing.

Survivors include his wife, Judith, of St Augustine, Fla.; one daughter: Julie R. Pope of Selma; one son, Jason K. Pope of Atlanta, Ga.; two sisters, Marsha Pope Gavin of Alexander City and Melissa Pope Goode of Montgomery; one brother, Michael Pope of Demopolis.

Flowers are gratefully declined those wishing may make a contribution in his memory to the Flagler Hospital Foundation, for Oncology 400 Health Park Blvd. St Augustine, FL 32086

Mr. Pope was born in Ft. Valley, Georgia and had resided in St Augustine for the past two years. He was a Regional Sales Manager for Metso Corporation. He was of the Episcopal faith. He served as a Staff Sergeant in the U. S. Marines.

Mary Watts

Mary Watts, 45, of Selma, died Wednesday, March 17, 2004, at her home.

Services are at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 23, at John the Baptist Church, Co. Rd. 2, Orrville, with the Rev. Curtis Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Watts Cemetery with Miller Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include his parents, Lawrence Watts and Ethel Evans; two daughters, Shakeisha and Ashunder Watts; four brothers, Charlie, Will, Edward and Tony; four sisters, Josephine Whitley, Ethel M. Evans, Venda Lee Craig and Mary Tolbert; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two brothers-in-law; one sister-in-law; 12 nephews; 12 nieces; and 51 other relatives.

Active pallbearers are Willie J. McMillian, Floyd Turner, Will Taylor and Charlie Simmons.

Myrtle Eady Ford

Myrtle Eady Ford, 91, of Marion, died Saturday, March 20, 2004, at Perry County Nursing Home.

Graveside services are at 11 a.m. Friday, March 26, at Marion Cemetery with the Reverend Michael Perry officiating and Kirk Funeral Homes Marion Chapel directing.

Survivors include two nieces, Lena H. Griffin of Kingsport, Tenn., and Dorothy L. Brazell of Glen Burnie of Maryland; and 12 great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Carolyn F. Perry, and brother-in-law, Tillman B. Perry.

Active pallbearers are John P. Griffin, Richard Griffin, Ed Lockett, Mark Lockett, Jack Hendrix, Jr., and William Mizell.

Family visitation will be from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at Kirk Funeral Homes, Marion Chapel.

The family suggests memorials may be made to Judson College, Marion Military Institute or Siloam Baptist Church.

Miss Ford, the daughter of the late Benjamin F. and Lena Coker Ford, was born October 28, 1912.

She was a graduate of Perry County High School, Livingston College (University of West Alabama), and the University of Alabama.

She taught first grade for 34 years at Heiberger and Suttle.

Miss Ford was a generous supporter of Judson College, Marion Military Institute and the University of West Alabama.

She was an especially devoted supporter and member of Siloam Baptist Church.

Hattie Rogers Felts

Hattie Rogers Felts, 77, of Camden, died Sunday, March 21, 2004, at a Camden hospital.

Services are at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 23, at Enon Baptist Church with Dr. Scott Guffin and Dr. John Core officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Dunklin-Herndon Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include brothers, Perry Rogers of Camden, Aubrey Rogers of Aiken, S.C., and Robert L. Rogers of Camden; sisters, Merle R. Helton of Elmore and Carolee Rogers of Camden.

Family visitation will be from 1 p.m. until funeral hour.

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to Enon Baptist Church, Enon Baptist Church Cemetery or to the American Cancer Society..

Alvin McNeil

Alvin McNeil, 65, of Selma, died Wednesday, March 17, 2004, in Selma.

Services are at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 25, at the Chapel of Miller Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery with Miller Funeral Home directing.

Effie Atchison Strickland

Effie Atchison Strickland, 86, of Carlowville, died Saturday, March 20, 2004, at a Montgomery nursing home.

Services were at 2 p.m. Monday, March 22, at the Chapel of Lawrence Funeral Home with the Rev. Taylor Bowers and the Rev. Daphne Johnson officiating. Burial followed in Pineview Memory Gardens Cemetery

with Lawrence Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include, daughter, Dorris S. Cox; sons, Cecil Wayne (Janice) Strickland and James Hugh (Marzette) Strickland; grandchildren, Douglas William (Debra) Cox, Richard Wayne Strickland, Daphne (Frank) Johnson, Jennifer (Mike) Thomas, Scott (Rebecca) Strickland and Robert (Olivia) Strickland; sister, Mary Ellen Rogers; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Active pallbearers were grandsons.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorials be made to Carlowville Baptist Church Building Fund.

Alpheus Clifton Perry Jr.

Alpheus Clifton Perry Jr., 89, of Selma, died Sunday, March 21, 2004, at a local hospital.

Graveside services are at noon Wednesday, March 24, at Old Live Oak Cemetery with Father Carroll Plourde and the Rev. James Jackson officiating and J.H. Williams and Sons Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include one sister, Gracie Perry Phillips of Selma; one nephew, Nathaniel &8220;Skip&8221; Phillips; devoted niece, Arlene Nicholas Phillips; cousins, Fred D. Williams III, Frances Williams Bumbry and Ursula Williams McAlpine; loving great-nephew, Nathan E. P. Phillips.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice M. Perry and brother, John Henry Perry.

Mr. Phillips was the oldest child born to the late Alpheus C. Perry Sr. and Lillie Williams Perry. He was educated in Selma City Schools and Selma University receiving a B.S. degree Alabama State. He was a veteran of World War II, fought with the U.S. Army as a Buffalo Solider in Italy.

He was awarded two Bronze Stars.

He was honorably discharged wit the rank of Captain.

He retired for civil service in New York in 1974, relocating to Selma.
