Wilcox Central Jags take senior night win

It took Mark Dukes’ Wilcox Central team the better part of a half to find their stride Saturday night at home as the Jags hosted Charles Henderson of Troy and hoped to lock up the area title.
Strong second halves from Kendron Blue, Michael Williams and Corneal Mixon helped 8th-ranked Jags lock up the title with a 57-43 win.
The Jags seemed out of sorts in the first half after their Senior Night ceremonies.
They were big plays, including a pair of jams from Williams, but there were also plenty of mistakes.
It seemed liked the Jags were spending too much of their time trying to make a statement, rather than just play.
Then in the second half, Williams got active and Mixon made a huge difference on the offensive end.
Williams led all scorers with 20 points and 13 rebounds in his final regular season home game.
Anthony Price was right from downtown early and ended with 12 points, seven rebounds and four assists.
Mixon scored all eight of his points in the fourth quarter and added three boards and four blocks.
Allen Crumpton had six points, as did Blue.
Yamene Coleman, who played limited minutes with a broken toe, had two points. Alquan Mendenhall added two as well. For Henderson, Jeremy Jones led with 10 points and Q. Lewis added eight.
Dukes said his team really stepped up their play in the second half.
Foul trouble for Curtis Parker, who finished with six points, really limited what Henderson was able to do on the inside.
By the fourth quarter, Williams and Mixon controlled the game from the inside.
Wilcox plays at Keith on Tuesday and at Southside on Friday before hosting the area tournament.
