Police report second murder of ’04

Selma police discovered the body of Clinton James Peeples, Jr. outside a Voeglin Avenue residence late Tuesday night, making this Selma’s second murder of the year.

At approximately 11:15 p.m., police were notified about gun shots fired at 1307 Voeglin Avenue. Upon arrival, officers found the body of 25-year-old Peeples inside a parked car near the curb of the residence.

Selma Police Chief Robert Green said it appears the victim sustained fatal gun shot wounds to his upper torso.

According to a separate report, bullet holes were also found in the front door, front window and in a wall inside the home.

The Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences is performing an autopsy to determine the exact nature of the victim’s death.

Green added that the case is still in its infancy stages and little information is being released at this time.

So far, no clear motive to the killing has been established.

Fourth Judicial Circuit District Attorney Ed Greene confirmed that the victim is the son of Selma Detective Clinton Peeples.

A separate police report listed the victim’s home address as in the Glender Drive area of Jones, Ala.

This latest murder is the second committed this

year.

On Jan. 19, 41-year-old Lizzie Mae Lewis was arrested for the stabbing death of Roosevelt Jackson, Jr. at a Highway 80 East hotel.

Arrests have also been made in two separate shootings this month as well.

A 17-year-old juvenile is being charged with three felonies in connection to the Jan. 25 shooting at a Highway 80 East package store.

Henry Ford, 31, was taken into police custody last week on two first-degree assault charges for his involvement in a nightclub shooting.
