Awaiting a Saturday showdown with Selma High school and a coin-flip Monday with Hatch to decide the area championship, coach Joseph Pettway’s Keith Bears had a lot on their minds Friday night as they hosted Marbury.
Marbury was nice enough not to add to the Bears’ worries.
Keith jumped out to a 17-2 lead, cleared the bench and never looked back as they downed the visitors, 76-36.
The Bears spread the wealth around with four players in double figures.
Point guard Jeremiah Whitt had 11 points, including a pair of crowd-pleasing dunks.
Dominique Thomas also had 11 points.
Lewis Lee had 10 points and eight rebounds while Anthony Robinson scored 10 points as well.
Charles Jones added eight points, Alvin Jones had six and Marcus Tabb, Ladarrius Jones and Jimmie Richardson had four points each.
Anthony Collins and Tamarcus Thomas had two points each and John Harrison had a single point.
Harold Simon led Marbury with 12 points
in the losing effort.
The Bears were set to face Selma on Saturday.
Then the 11-9 Bears, 5-1 in the area, await the result of Monday coin flip with R.C. Hatch to decide the area title.
Set for high noon, the flip will determine whether the Cats or the Bears get to host opening round playoff action.
It’s been a big couple of weeks for coach Pettway. After the big win at Hatch, his son Antoine hit a game-winning shot for Alabama this week.
