From public radio to television to Vaughan Regional Medical Center – Zaneta Lowe’s path to Selma has been a winding one.
Lowe, marketing and public relations director for Vaughan Regional Medical Center, started working at the hospital in November. She handles the internal and external marketing of the hospital as well as acting as liaison between the hospital and the media.
Awareness comes in various shapes and sizes. Lowe takes pictures at events such as the Central Alabama Fair and Riverfront Market Day. She handles health minutes on the radio, coordinates hospital volunteers and takes part in the creation of advertisements.
Lowe also speaks to the media regularly. &uot;Selma’s media is great,&uot; Lowe said. &uot;We work closely with them to get our message across.&uot;
Lowe is no stranger to the media. She began her career while still in college with Alabama Public Radio in Tuscaloosa before moving to a local television station.
After graduating, Lowe worked for the NBC affiliate in Tuscaloosa and Anniston as well as filling in as an anchor in Birmingham when necessary.
Lowe left her job in television in 2002 and began working as the coordinator of public relations with Tuscaloosa City Schools. &uot;It was a great job opportunity,&uot; Lowe noted. &uot;I was an education reporter in the past. Education, like health care, is something everybody cares about.&uot;
About a year later her husband, Woodrow Lowe Jr., become Selma High School’s head football coach. Both moved to Selma and for a time Lowe taught a communications class at Selma Middle CHAT Academy.
When her current position become available she applied and began working shortly afterward.
Lowe has two children – Woodrow III, 4, and Kyle, 2 months.
