A Selma woman was taken into police custody Thursday morning in connection to last month’s assault and robbery on a Wilkins Road couple.
Officers with the Selma Police Department arrested 43-year-old Shirley Marie Downs, a resident in the 2500 block of north Lauderdale Street, after questioning her at police headquarters about the incident.
Downs was charged as an accomplice to the first-degree robbery and first-degree assault of Dr. Rangerao and Rohini Gummadapu on Dec. 16. Downs is the third suspect to the charged in connection with the crime.
On Dec. 24, Selma police arrested Donte Harris, 24, and a 17-year-old juvenile for allegedly using force to enter the Gummadapu home and attempting to steal various items.
According to police, the two men managed to gain entrance into the residence by posing a delivery men.
