Crime Stoppers of Dallas County is asking Selma residents to help solve a rash of burglaries that have taken place at Chanticleer Apartments.

According to Freine, the burglaries have occurred over the period from Dec. 30 to the present. &uot;They’re apparently still going on,&uot; he added.

Freine said that the unknown burglar or burglars have taken mostly electronic gear, but have also taken a number of jewelry items. &uot;They’ve even taken some furniture items,&uot; he said. &uot;That’s what leads us to believe that someone must have seen them.&uot;

Anyone with information about the case is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 1-866-44-CRIME.

Callers will be given a code name. They do not have to identify themselves or testify.

If the information provided leads to an arrest or the recovery of astolen property, callers will receive a cash reward of from $25 to $1,000.

Rewards are usually made within a matter of days. A conviction is not necessary to collect a reward, only an arrest or the recovery of stolen property. Although Crime Stoppers, which was launched locally in the fall of 2003, has yet to claim its first conviction, Freine said the program already is beginning to serve as a source of leads for law enforcement personnel. &uot;It’s really starting to pick up,&uot; Freine said. &uot;We’re getting a lot of people who are calling the hotline and leaving tips.&uot;

Most tips, he added, involve drug crimes. &uot;We’ve got a lot of tips on drug cases, and we’re looking into those,&uot; Freine said.

The hot line has even yielded one tip on the out-of-state whereabouts of a suspect wanted in a local murder case. Freine said police are currently investigating that lead.
