Inez Smith

Inez Smith, 80, of Sardis, died Monday, December 29, 2003, at a local nursing home.

Services are at 1 p.m. Saturday, January 3, at New Bethany Baptist Church with the Rev. Carl Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the churchyard cemetery with Lewis Brothers Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include a daughter, Bell Zora Torres of Bridgeport, Conn.; two brothers, Frank (Louise) James Sr. and Sullivan (Susie) Harrison Sr. both of Selma; two sisters, Annie Russell of Cleveland and Maple Johnson of Brooklyn, N.Y.; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two sons-in-law; four sisters-in-law; and a host of nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Spencer Zanders and a daughter, Annette James.

Active pallbearers are great-nephews and deacons.

Our heartfelt thanks to all of those who showed their love, compassion and concern. Special thanks to the Lighthouse Nursing Home staff, Dr. Cyriac, Dr. Aksut, Dr. Cox and Dr. Charles Lett.

William M. Vaultz

William M. Vaultz, 60, formerly of Selma, died Wednesday, December 17, 2003, at a veteran hospital in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Services are at 11 a.m. Friday, January 2, at the Chapel of J.H. Williams and Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Billy V. Dixon officiating. Burial will follow in Lincoln Cemetery with J. H. Williams and Sons Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include one aunt, Minnie L. DeSilvia; one uncle, William B. Vaultz of Washington, DC; and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Morton and Georgia Vaultz Morton.

Mr. Vaultz was born on Oct. 27, 1943 in Selma. He was educated in the Selma City Schools, graduating from Knox Academy. He was honorable discharged from the U.S. Armed Forces.

Mary Pearl Turner

Mary Pearl Turner, 82, of Selma, died Tuesday, December 30, 2003, in Tuscaloosa.

Graveside services are at 2 p.m. Friday, January 2, at Pineview Memory Gardens Cemetery with Rev. Curt Franklin officiating and Selma Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include her loving husband of 62 years, Leonard R. Turner of Selma; three sons, Richard (Bernice) Turner of Foley, Ron (Beverly) Turner of Tuscaloosa and Harold (Cammie) Turner of Selma; one sister, Jewel Garth; one brother-in-law, Billy Joe Hill; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Merle Hill.

Family visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.

She was loved and will be sadly missed b numerous friends.
