A high-ranking officer with the Selma Police Department has tendered his resignation, according to Mayor James Perkins Jr.
Perkins said he received notice of the officer’s resignation just before Monday’s City Council meeting. A press conference about the resignation will be held today, at which time more details will be released.
The officer’s name hasn’t yet been released.
Police Lt. Bill Hamner is currently appealing a 10-day suspension he received Dec. 8. The suspension was to have begun Thursday, but it was postponed until after Christmas during a personnel board hearing Tuesday.
He indicated that additional consequences would follow.
Perkins said that he wanted to see the issue resolved as quickly as possible.
