The Selma Police Department may have lost one of its officers this week due to a transfer, but it managed to gain two recruits to take his place.
Selma Police Chief Robert Green presented badges to two new police officers Tuesday morning during a swearing-in ceremony in his office.
The new officers, Brian Moye and Justin Fox, will be doing field training work for the next few weeks until they can attend the Craig Field Police Academy in January.
Both Moye and Fox are rookies to law enforcement and eager to begin their new career at the department.
Moye, a resident of Camden, said becoming a police officer is something he has wanted to do for a long time.
Fox, who lives in Selma, said the swearing-in ceremony was the fulfillment of a life-long dream for him, too.
With these new additions, there are now a total of 60 officers on the force.
Green said he would ideally like to hire at least five more people to help protect the citizens of Selma.
Green said he typically loses officers to larger police departments where they pay is much higher.
Once they have completed all the necessary training, Fox and Moye will be placed in the patrol division of the police department.
