Adelle R. Fort
Adelle R. Fort, 89, formerly of Selma, died Friday, Nov. 7, 2003, in Opelika.
Services are scheduled at Tabernacle Baptist Church, Tuesday, Nov. 11, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Rodney Morton officiating and J.H. Williams & Sons Funeral Home directing. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.
Survivors include a son, A. Maurice (Mattie) Fort of Opelika; a daughter, Glenda (Bernard) Marquis of Columbia, Md.; a brother, Stanley (Alice) Reagin of Shaker Heights, Ohio; two sisters, Ruth (Marion) Mann and Mildred Rowland, both of Washington, D.C.; four grandchildren and a number of nephews and nieces and other relatives.
Active pallbearers are the deacons and trustees of Tabernacle Baptist Church.
Born in Selma, the second child of Arthur Reagin Sr. and Susan Kigh Reagin, she was baptized and joined Tabernacle Baptist Church. She attended Clark Elementary and Selma University High and received her undergraduate and master’s degrees from Alabama State Teachers’ College. She taught for many years in the Decatur city and Dallas County school systems. She was married in 1948 to the late Isaiah Long Fort. She was a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Entre Nous Club, and of the state and local Alabama Retired Teachers’ Association.
The family will receive friends Monday, Nov. 10, from 6-7 p.m., at J.H. Williams & Sons Funeral Home.
Lucy Kemp
Lucy Kemp, 54, of Demopolis, died Wednesday, Nov. 5, at her home.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Nov. 11, at 1 p.m., at
the Greater New Hope Baptist Church, Demopolis. The remains will repose at the church on Tuesday, beginning at 12 noon. Larkin & Scott Funeral Directors of Demopolis are directing.
