To students at Bruce K. Craig that was recognized during Academic Celebration. Students achieving &uot;academic clear,&uot; honor roll, or Accelerated Reading goals for the first nine weeks were treated to candy bags, hot dogs, drinks, and a half day of fun activities. Games included football, ring toss, cheerleading instruction by Mrs. Karen Dismukes. Trophies were awarded to Mrs. Dru Lee, third grade, Mrs. Bessie Morgan, fourth grade; and Mrs. Yashika White, fifth grade, for having the highest Accelerated Reader points for the period.

To Lyncia Clay, who was nominated to Who’s Who Among American High School Students for the year 2002-03. Lyncia is in the top 5 percent of students

achieving academic excellence and will have her biography printed in the 37th edition of Who’s Who among American High School students, and will receive scholarship money. Lyncia is a sophomore at Selma High School. As a freshman, Lyncia was one of the top three scorers on the NEDT test. Lyncia is the daughter of Keithin and Linda Pettway and Essie Clay. She thanks God, her parents, church family, sister, LaShonda Clay Watson and

her teachers for helping her to success.

To Crystal Berry Hood, a graduate of Selma High and Spelman College, received her degree in medicine from Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta. She is a pediatrician with the University of Florida Department of Pediatrics Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida. Her future goals are to establish clinics in underserved areas and in South Africa.Crystal states that the support and prayers of here family and friends have been invaluable. Dr. Hood is the daughter of Kirk and Gwen Carrington. She is the granddaughter of Coley and Helen Chestnut, George and Mildred Carrington and Tina Berry. And the wife of Benjamin Hood of Columbus, Ga.

To Tiffany Snow the new Miss Southside 2003. She was escorted at Homecoming by Darryl Watts. Snow is the daughter of Willie and Lawana Edwards.

To Chantel Moore on receiving the Leadership Award, Award of Distinction, Most Creative Award, Most Improved Star and Honor Roll at Clark Elementary School. The second-grader maintains her balance in the face of such large accomplishments by recognizing the value of her teachers, friends and family in helping her achieve great things.

To Clark Elementary School teacher Kathy Bradford, who has been teaching for 15 years as a second grade teacher. The reward for all that had work comes &uot;when a child gets that spark in their eye signifying that he or she understands.&uot;Teaching is a collaborative effort for Bradford involving help from her husband and co-workers. Mrs. Bradford loves gardening and spending time with her husband and children.

To Ryann Whetstone, a music major concentrating on vocal performance, will be presented in her senior recital on Saturday. Whetstone is from Killen and is a Judson Singers and Faith ensemble.

She is listed in &uot;Who’s Who in American Colleges and

Universities.&uot; Whetstone is a student of Dr. Betty Campbell who will accompany her on the piano.
