Auburn and Alabama basketball coaches Cliff Ellis and Mark Gottfried made a joint appearance at the Selma Quarterback Club Tuesday night.
Auburn’s Ellis and Bama’s Gottfried took turns addressing the large turn out, then took questions from the audience.
Gottfried spoke first and talked about the turnover Alabama faces this season, and the prospects of former Selma player Chuck Davis.
Gottfried also praised another local player, Antoine Pettway from Camden. Gottfried talked about Pettway’s work ethic and called him &uot;savvy&uot;.
Both coaches talked about how tough their out of conference schedule is this year, but Ellis said he empathized with Gottfried.
Both coaches addressed their close relationship and commented on how odd that is for the Alabama, Auburn rivalry.
Next week Troy State head coach Larry Blakeney will be the guest speaker.
