Selma resident Benjamin Davis was shot and killed Tuesday night after what police believe to be a dispute that turned deadly.
No arrests have been made in the case, but the Selma Police Department has issued a warrant for 20-year-old Selma resident Roy Ray Davis. An arrest is expected soon.
It was unclear whether the two men are related.
At approximately 9:20 p.m. Selma police officers responded to information that a body had been found in the 1400 block of St. Phillips Street.
A large crowd had gathered in the area by the time officers arrived, but they were quickly able to secure the crime scene.
Along with officers from the Selma Police Department, members of the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office and Alabama State Troopers assisted in the investigation.
According to a statement issued by police, it appears the 24-year-old victim was shot more than once. Evidence was collected at the scene and investigators interviewed several witnesses.
The information gathered from those witnesses is currently being investigated.
Warren Hinson, Selma police public information officer, said investigators are working around the clock and are expected to make an arrest in the case soon.
