Valley Grande’s annexed it’s last acre.
At the Valley Grande Town Council meeting Monday, the council voted unanimously to annex 4,185 acres into the town, while at the same time adding an additional 660 people to its population. About 3,600 now live in the town.
Monday night was the third and final stage of Valley Grande’s annexation of surrounding areas. It included areas extending approximately seven miles north of Valley Creek Church Road and eight miles west of Summerfield Road. Valley Grande Mayor Herb Story estimated Valley Grande now encompassed 15,000 acres.
Story, speaking to citizens before the vote, said he hoped the town’s energy could be used to work toward bettering Valley Grande once the annexation was over.
Notice of the annexation will be posted in three public places and will become legal after five days. Story said notices would be posted Monday night.
Petitions requesting annexation, the ordinance annexing the area and a map of annexed areas will be submitted to Dallas County Probate Judge Johnny Jones within a few days.
In other matters the council:
In order to get the zip code, a list of every address to every road in Valley Grande must be submitted to the U.S. Postal Service in map form. Once submitted, the process could take three to six months, Story said.
