The Selma Neighborhood Watch system proved its worth Tuesday night when police apprehended two juvenile burglary suspects with the help of an alert Selma resident.

The Selma Police Department received a call around 6 p.m. that a house on Mabry Street had been burglarized.

Officers David Hopkins and John Christian arrived on the scene and collected evidence. They interviewed neighbors in the area, one of whom was able to provide a detailed description of the two suspects.

Around midnight, the officers were able to locate one of the juveniles. The suspect gave a chase and attempted to hide, but was quickly found and taken into custody.

The officers also found some of the stolen items in the suspect’s possession.

The two juveniles are charged with first degree burglary, a class A felony. They are currently being held at the Hail County Juvenile Detention Facility.

Evans also praised officers Hopkins and Christian for their efforts, which led to recovering the stolen property and apprehending the suspects.
