A sports radio show designed to bring local and statewide talent to Selma debuts today on WHBB AM 1490. The show, hosted by Kevin Bush, will air Monday through Friday from 5-6 p.m.
The first half of the show will concentrate on local sports, the second half to be devoted to state and national sports.
The show will also feature call-ins, much like WHBB’s show, &uot;Viewpoint.&uot; This, says Bush, sets the show off from other forms of sports news &045;&045; such as that from newspapers and television.
WHBB/WDXX President and General Manager Mike Reynolds came up with the original idea. Sports is a hot topic for the station and its listeners, he says.
Those initial sponsors include Kentucky Fried Chicken, Mr. Roy’s, Lorch’s Diamond, Moore-Stewart Ford, The Swamp and other local businesses.
Bush points to his line-up of guests for the show’s first week as an example of the interest Selma people have in sports. &uot; There’s going to be a lot of local emphasis on this show,&uot; he said.
Today’s guests include Auburn football players Ben Obomanu and Brent Holliman as well as Tracy Williamson with Dixie Youth Sports and Elton Reese with the Selma Recreation Department.
Tuesday, Tom Roberts from the Crimson Tide Sports Network, along with former Alabama player Chris Samuels, will be the show’s guests. That show will run live from the sportsplex.
There will also be weekly guests, such as Roberts, Rod Bramblett from the Auburn Network and local sports enthusiast Casey Nelson.
Bush said it doesn’t matter what callers want to talk about. If it’s sports related, just call the show. That phone number is: 875-1490.
