Man arrested for alleged sexual abuse

Selma Police Department detectives are investigating an alleged rape that occurred Monday evening.
Selma resident Leon Barley Jr. has been arrested and charged with first-degree rape of an 11-year-old child.
He is currently being held at the Dallas County Jail on a $40,000 bond.
According to public information officer Lt. David Evans, police officers were notified about of the sexual assault shortly after 9 p.m.
This evidence led to officers arresting the 23-year-old suspect, who had taken up residence in a local motel.
Detective Dorothy Lowan is leading the investigation to determine exact details of the case and Barley’s criminal history.
Officers believe that the alleged incident took place at the suspect’s hotel room.
Evans said police are determining whether the suspect is an acquaintance of the victim.
