AmSouth pitcher Clint Maroney ended the night just as he started it.

Maroney struck out the first and last Talton batters of the night Wednesday.

In between, he fanned 14 other batters to lead his AmSouth team to the 11-6 Dixie Youth Baseball win.

Maroney started out on a tear.

He struck out six of the first seven batters he faced. Only a first-inning walk to Jamarious Strong broke the streak.

At the plate, AmSouth took advantage of several Talton errors to build an 8-0 lead over the first three innings. As Maroney began to tire, Talton mounted a challenge.

Talton cut the lead to 8-5 before AmSouth slammed the door with three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.

The final numbers for Maroney were impressive.

He pitched seven innings, struck out 16, allowed six runs on three hits and six walks.

Matthew Ross led the AmSouth offense with a pair of singles, an RBI and three runs scored. Brad Averitt added a single, two runs scored and an RBI. Mike King and Jonathan Pritchett also singled for AmSouth.

Talton’s big hit came off the bat of pitcher Quince Colburn.

Colburn tripled to lead off the third inning and spark a Talton rally.

Kendell Williams also singled and scored in the inning. Courtney Morgan singled, walked twice and scored three times to help the Talton offense.

After Maroney struck out the side in the first, AmSouth scored four runs without the benefit of a hit. Six Talton errors allowed AmSouth to take the quick lead.

Maroney struck out three more hitters and AmSouth was back at the plate for three more runs.

Pritchett, Ross, Averitt and Maroney all singled to start the inning before Colburn got three straight ground ball outs to get out of the inning.

Talton got the three runs back in the top of the third as Colburn led off with a well-placed triple to right. After a Morgan walk, Williams singled the runner home.

Both Morgan and Williams eventually crossed the plate.

Patrick Bonner reached on an error to lead off the bottom of the inning and scored for AmSouth.

After a scoreless fourth, Talton made things interesting in the top of the fifth.

Maroney, who began to show signs of fatigue, walked Eric Henderson and Morgan to start the inning.

The runners each moved up on a steal, then pinch-runner Ricky Moore scored on a wild pick-off attempt at third.

Morgan later scored on a wild pitch.

Singles by King and Ross helped AmSouth score three runs in the bottom of the sixth to seal the win.
