Church to hold special service

Beginning Wednesday, the Tabernacle of Praise Church will host it’s eighth annual Victory in Praise conference. For three days, the church will be the place to find lots of Bible-based preaching and plenty of Christian music.

Williams said his staff sent 250 invitations to churches across Selma and surrounding counties. Since that time, he said, the office phone has been ringing constantly with people inquiring about the event.

This year’s conference is extra special to Williams and his congregation because it’s the first time it will be held in the new church building.

The main attraction at the Victory in Praise 2003 are the guest speakers.

On Wednesday, Bishop George Scott of Christ Worldwide Church in Dayton, Ohio, will be ministering to the crowd.

Scott also serves as overseer of two churches, including one in Florence.

The most well-known pastor will be appearing at Tabernacle of Praise Church on Thursday, when Pastor Paula White of Paula White Ministries in Tampa, Fla., will speak.

White, along with her husband, Randy, is co-pastor and co-founder of Without Walls International Church, which boasts a 13,000 multi-racial membership.

Paula also hosts a television program known as Paula White Today

that can be seen on Black Entertainment Television, Trinity Broadcasting Network and Daystar Television Network.

On Friday, the last night of the conference, Williams himself will speak to the crowd.

Willimas began Tabernacle of Praise Church in 1988 with only six members. Since that time, the church has grown to over 600 members and moved into a 17,000 square foot building in May.

Williams said the staff at Tabernacle of Praise Church has been working hard for the past six months in preparation for the conference.

The conference will begin each night at 7 p.m. There will also be noon services Thursday and Friday.
