Panthers fall to Coosa

Central Coosa 50, Southside 45

The Southside Panthers came up five points short down the stretch of their Area Tournament Championship game Tuesday night losing to Central Coosa 50-45. With the loss the Panthers drop to 13-12 on nth year, and Central Coosa improves to 26-5.

The Central Coosa Cougars were in control for the better part of the game taking a 19-17 lead in the locke room at halftime. The Panthers managed to claw their way back into the game after being down by as much as 12 points in the third quarter, but in the end the Cougars were to much to handle for the Panthers. With the win the Cougars will host a sub-regional tournament, and the panthers will have to go on the road for the first round of the sub-regionals.

The Cougars managed to hold the Panthers leading scorer Nelson Waters below hi season average as he only put up 14 in the game. After not scoring in the first half Cedrick Brown came on strong for the Panthers putting up 13 second half points. Jeffery Anderson hit two late three pointers to try and get the Panthers back in the game, and Ricky McConoco finished the night with six points as well.

The Cougars were led on the night by Fernando Edwards with 16 points.

Wilcox Central 80, Escambia 57

The Wilcox Central Wildcats will host a subregional tournament after their win against Escambia in the area tournament championship Tuesday night 80-57.

The Wildcats were led by Michael Williams with 24. Earl Johnson finished with 20 pointsfor the Wildcats. Yermene Coleman had 17 points.

Keith 92,

Billingsley 47

The Keith High Bears made it through the first round of the area playoffs with little trouble Saturday

night defeating Billingsley 92-47.

Leading the way for the Bears was Prince Murray with 26 points and six rebounds. Charles Jones finished the night with 18 points, four rebounds, and three steals. David Gragg and Antoine Rayford both had good outing’s for the Bears as well. Gragg finished the game with 15 points and five rebounds, and Rayford had eight points and four rebounds.

Bessemer 78, Meadowview 55

The Meadowview Christian Trojans season came to an end Saturday night as they fell to Bessemer 78-55 in the first round of the area tournament. The Trojans were led by Robert Blackmon with 17 points and 18 rebounds. John Robert Morton finished the game with 14 points and 13 rebounds.
