Mattie Lee Cook
Mattie Lee Cook, of Charlotte, N.C., formerly of Selma, died Friday, Jan. 9, 2004.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 12, 2004,
at the Chapel of Lawrence Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Mt. Pleasant Church Cemetery.
Survivors include a daughter, Mary (Earl) Ellen Taylor, of Charlotte; a sister, Paralee Powell, Mobile; and a granddaughter.
Mrs. Cook was a nurse at the new and old Vaughan Regional Medical Center for many years.
Honorary pallbearers will be Harold Wells Jr., William &8220;Buddy&8221; Swift, Carl McMillion, Larry Gaddy and George Watkins, Jr.
Thomas Houston Willis
Thomas Houston (T.H.) Willis, 92, of Selma, died Jan. 11, 2004, at Vaughan Memorial Hospital.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 13, at the New Live Oak Cemetery, with Sandy Jamison and George Sedberry officiating, and Lawrence Funeral Home directing.
Survivors include three sons, Bobby Hughes Willis (Leigh Thornton) of Selma; Benny Zeigler Willis of Selma and Thomas William Willis (Martha Summers) of Cookeville, Tenn.; two granddaughters; two great-grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren; three sisters, Frances Willis Gregg of Stanton, Dorothy Willis Moore of Mobile and Ladye Willis Herman of Mobile; one sister-in-law, Jerry Zeigler of Selma; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Jessie Isabell Zeigler Willis; a grandson, James Roger Willis; his parents, Thomas William and Lilian Marlar Willis; two brothers, Morris Pettus and Carey Lowe Willis; and one sister Floreede Bunnell.
He was a member of Church Street United Methodist Church and was the owner and operator of the T.H. Willis Grocery Store for more than 63 years.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 12, at the T.H. Willis home.
