Southern squeaks by Trojans

Southern 51, Meadowview 49

The Meadowview Christian Trojans fell at the hands of Southern in a close one Tuesday night 51-49.

The Trojans were led in scoring by John Robert Morton with 19 points, and he also had 11 rebounds. Robert Blackmon also finished strong for the Trojans putting up 13 points, and he led the team in rebounds with 15. Chad Bryant finished the night with 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Trojans.

Southern was led in scoring by Jay Cook with 18 points.

Keith 67,

Francis Marion 66

The Keith High Bears reached the 500 mark Tuesday night with their big overtime win over the Francis Marion Rams in Orville Tuesday night.

In overtime the Bears went four for four from the free throw line, and that is what helped push them past the Rams.

Charles Jones led the way for the Bears with 18 points, five rebounds, and three assists. Prince Murray picked up 10 points and five rebounds for the Bears, and David Gray had nine points, three rebounds, and three assists on the night. Glen Hunter finished strong for the Bears hitting two key free throws in overtime.

The Bears take on Selma High Friday night in Orville.

MMI 54,

Demopolis 33

The MMI Tigers took on Demopolis Academy Tuesday night in Marion, and picked up the big win 54-33.

The Tigers slimmest lead came at the end of the first quarter when they led 11-6. At the end of the first half the Tigers held an 11 point lead, and they never looked back after that point.

Leading the way for the Tigers was Javoris Smith with 19 points, 10 rebounds, and six steals. Douglass Fitz-Gerald picked up 13 points and six rebounds on the night.

Southside 55,

Central Coosa 45

The Southside Panthers pulled the big upset Tuesday night against Central Coosa 55-45.

The Panthers never trailed in the game, and were pulled through by a strong defensive effort from the whole team.

Nelson Waters led the way for the Panthers with 18 points. Cedrick Brown had an outstanding defensive performance as well.

The Panthers take o Central Hayneville Thursday night at home.

MMI 42,

Demopolis 29

The MMI Lady Tigers picked up the big win over Demopolis Academy Tuesday night 42-29.

The game was never in doubt for the Lady Tigers as they pulled out to a 21-6 halftime lead, and by the end of the third quarter led by 21 points.

Felecia Sprott led the way for the Lady Tigers 22 points, 15 rebounds, and eight blocks. Yolanda Kelly had another good performance for the Tigers also, she picked up 13 points and six assists in the win.
