Rella Grant
Rella Grant, 92, of Lowndes County, died Monday, Dec. 9, 2002.
Services are at 12 noon Saturday, Dec. 14, at St. Paul CME Church with the Rev. C.K. Boswell officiating. Burial will follow in the churchyard cemetery with Bell Funeral Home directing.
James Lee Freeland
SMSGT James Lee Freeland, USAF retired, 72, of Alabama, a native of Jackson, Ohio, died Saturday, Dec. 7, 2002.
Graveside services are at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13, at Ft. Barrancas National Cemetery with full military honors, with Oak Lawn Funeral Home, 619 New Warrington Rd., Pensa-cola, Fla., directing.
Survivors include his wife of 23 years, Patricia Ann Walker Freeland; two daughters, Vicky Lee (Randy) Brown and Lynn Marie Freeland ; and granddaughter, Emily Blake Brown all of Selma; sisters, Ethel Marie Wyant, Betty Lou (Larry) Brunton, Eileen (Harold) Richards, Leila (Charles) Harper and Jerry Lee (Glen) Litton all of Ohio and Sharen (Dan) Parks of California; nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Milton Esto and Grace Freeland, brothers, Ralph Ferguson and Richard “Dick” Freeland.
Family visitation will be from 12:30-1:30 p.m. on Friday, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
Mr. Freeland served in the United States Air Force for 22 years and was employed by Southern (Norfolk Southern) Railways, where he retired after 20 years of service. He was a member of Masonic Post #926, Selma, (Master Mason), VFW Post #3016, Selma, DAV Post #61 and American Legion Post #153, Eight Mile.
William Forrest Johnson
William Forrest Johnson, 33, of Camden, died Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2002, at a Birmingham hospital.
Services are at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 13, at Camden United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ron Lee, the Rev. Alan McBride and Dr. Jerry Henry officiating. Burial will follow in Camden Cemetery with Dunklin-Herndon Funeral Home directing.
Survivors include his wife, Jodi Johnson of Camden; children, Taylor Johnson and Lange Johnson of Camden; parents, Billy and Mandi Johnson of Camden; a sister, Amanda Johnson of Camden; and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Johnson Jr. of Selma.
He was preceded in death by Tekla Adams.
Active pallbearers are Brent Blackmon, Paul J. Strickland, Brad Cook, Jeff Dunnam, AL Gibbs, Rick Tait, John Robert Harvey, Ed Reaves, Will Reaves and Strother Gibbs.
Honorary pallbearers are Patrick Neeley, Lawrence Champion, Malcolm Smith, Danny Burford, Shayne Wasden, William Malone, Rick Williams, Gene Cox, Brad Powe, Will Curry, Johnny Webb, Sumpter Blackmon and John Barrett Travis.

Maggie Brown
Maggie Brown, 86, of Selma, died Sunday, Dec. 8, 2002, at her home.
Services are at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, at the Chapel of Miller Funeral Home with the Rev. James A. Spicer officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery with Miller Funeral Home directing.
Survivors include two sons, Napoleon Pete Brown (Patricia), Reginald Cody Brown (Eloise) and Ronald Moore (Barbara), (devoted grandson) ; three daughters, Myrtle Hudson, Ruth Anthony and Brenda B. Lewis (John) and Aretha Phillips (devoted granddaughter); one sister, Ruth Bryant; 21 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren; one adopted granddaughter, Evelyn Jackson; one son-in-law; two daughters-in-law; special sons-in-law, Rickey Anthony and Willie Phillips.
Active pallbearers are family and friends.
Leila Jones Gregg
Leila Jones Gregg, 75, of Selma, died Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2002, at her home.
Graveside services are at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, at Pineview Memory Gardens Cemetery with Dr. Kenny Hatcher officiating and Lawrence Funeral Home directing.
Survivors include sons, Sammy E. Chandler of Albany, Ga., William R. (Sandra) Chandler of Selma and Roger L. (Anna) Chandler of Thorsby; daughters, Sharon Chandler (Duke) Brady of Selma and Wendy Lee Gregg (Doug) Langston of Briarfield; grandchildren, Jason Brady, Matt Brady, Roger L. Chandler II, Lacey Langston, Lindsey Langston, Tony Chandler, Jeff Chandler, Cindy Benedict, Joe Chandler and Eric Chandler; three great-grandchildren; brothers, Wilbur (Coleen) Jones and Thomas (Ann) Jones all of Jemison, Donald (Dolly) Jones and Mac (Esther) Jones all of Selma; sisters, Mary (Johnny) Farmer and Mildred (Don) Belcher all of Selma.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William L. Jones and Lonice H. Jones; brothers, Horace Jones and Billy Jones; sisters, Delene Harris and Hazel Harris; and two husbands, Enzo Chandler and Forrest “Windy” Gregg.
Active pallbearers are Jason Brady, Matt Brady, Roy Farmer, Don Jones, Don Belcher and Tommy Jones.
Family visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, at Lawrence Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorials be made to The American Cancer Society.

Lucinda Green, 81, of Forkland, died Friday, Dec. 6, 2002, in Farmington, Mich.
Services are at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 13, at Springhill Baptist Church, Boligee, with the Rev. Richard White officiating. Burial will follow in Lloyd Chapel Cemetery, Forkland, with Larkin and Scott Funeral Home of Demopolis directing.

Lorene Beal, 87, of Gallion, died Saturday, Dec. 7, 2002, at a Demopolis hospital.
Services are at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, at Oak Grove Baptist Church, Gallion, with the Rev. Albert Murdock and the Rev. Hezekiah Young officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Larkin and Scott Funeral Home of Demopolis directing.
Family visitation will be from 7-8 p.m. on Friday at Larkin and Scott Funeral Home.
