Thanksgiving &045;&045; a day of celebration for most, but for Selma Police and fire personnel the day is day for working not for playing.
Selma Police Lt. David Evans said that during Thanksgiving, police are working, patrolling the streets, trying to keep drunk drivers off the road.
Evans said that there is a large number of cars on the road and that there are extra police on the roads to patrol traffic.
Evans said that since families consume alcohol during this time of year that domestic violence incidents are usually prevalent during Thanksgiving.
Evans said police are also paid overtime.
Selma Fire Chief Mark Walker said that even though fire personnel also work that day that it’s usually a quiet day for them.
Evans said that during the holiday that he would rather be at home, spending time with his family, &uot;cooking a nice Thanksgiving meal.&uot;
